I think so. Cheap and he did a great job with the youth. If they get rid of Eichel, Reinhart and Risto then it will truly be a new rebuild. If they couldalso dump Okposo and Skinner, then they would be in great shape cap wise.
So would the scouts be paid for the remaining time? - Hank Balling
Yes - unless they hooked on to another team - they might have been paid the difference between the two salaries assuming that the Buffalo salary was higher
The open protection slot is an asset. I'd like to see him use it. Shopping for 2 UFA G's could end badly, and most likely would. - Lunaion
If I'm understanding what you're saying, you're thinking the return Buffalo would have to give to a team would be minimal because said team would be losing that goaltender anyway, right?
What would you offer him? I struggle to come up with anything that I'd be happy with and would also keep him from wanting to talk to other teams. - Lunaion
I guess it depends on what "ends badly" means to you.
If the Sabres are trading the big 3 this offseason then I don't think Khudobin or Allen are going to stop it from ending badly any more than 1 year deals for James Reimer and Petr Mrazek would.
Save the picks for the rebuild - Hank Balling
You seem locked in on 2 names I pulled quickly from the lottery tool. I also mentioned Kivlenieks. He's younger and more interesting because he could be more than a stop-gap. I'm sure there's other options. I didn't dig very much.
Also, I'm not necessarily saying it has to be a pick for a G. Could easily be part of a bigger deal.
Not sure which order you intend that. If it's 4m for 3 years, that's well below an average starter. Wouldn't you expect him to look around?
Demko at 5x5 is a big problem. I'd hate to come close to that in term or $. - Lunaion
ullmark is not an an average starter for the entire season.. therefore he gets 75% of what an average starter gets. because he can only play 75% of the season. We can't overpay him to sit in the PB when we have no other viable options for a back up let alone a 2nd back up when he inevitably gets injured

Yes. I'm expecting some trade activity around the league to deal with protection issues, then a lightning round after the expansion draft and during the amateur draft.

That's fine to think, and I really have no issue with it, but it results in him testing the market. My point here has really been that I don't see a middle ground that keeps him from looking around.

Here's my 2 cents
Eichel ends up in Anaheim
Rhino goes to LA
Risto goes to Winnipeg maybe NJ
Dark horse Olofsson goes to Calgary or with Rhino to LA - Buff36
Just can't see the devil's going for risto as the devils rely on analytics and unless it's for cheap I don't see them do it

I don't want to see them overpay here either. - Lunaion
From many accounts, Ullmark is gone as far as signing with the Sabres.
