All players or almost all want to win. He doesn’t have to waive anything. And depends on a lot as no one knows what the exact future holds.

We shall see what he does. If he does want to win the. Sign a league minimum deal to play in Tampa.

That is debatable.

Does Doughty not have a NMC? Don't want any part of that contract either way.

I seriously doubt any deals will be made before the ED.

True, I wasn't thinking right about this, it was a stupid comment on my part. Sorry.

Do you see the Flyers having any interest in Marc Staal? What secondary dman do you think are a possibility for the Flyers after the big singings are gone.
- hello it's me 2050

Wasn't there a rumor that they kicked the tires on Staal at the TDL?

You're hoping Seattle takes a bad contract. I hope they do as well. But that still is not enough cap space.

Seattle can very easily draft NAK simply because he is younger and cheaper. Vegas picked Cousins from the Flyers for similar reasons.

Myers has low trade value. He was a healthy scratch last season and turns 25 next year. He is no longer considered a prospect. Still not giving up on him, but his value is low. His cap hit is only $2.5.

Patrick also has low trade value as well as a low cap hit.

Bunnaman has low value and a low cap hit.

Flyers need Konecny. He and Farabee only the only young players that have proven capable of hitting 20 goals for them. The next youngest is Hayes and he is already 29.

Plus, Farabee is a RFA next summer. If he hits the 20 goal mark next season, he will see a major pay increase.

Konecny had 2 20 goal seasons in a row and that got him a new contract with a $5.5 cap hit.

Farabee can see a similar contract next summer if he hits 20 again.

Currently, Farabee is a $925,000. So a increase to $5.5 would affect the Flyers cap situation in a big way.

Plus, what does Carter Hart get this summer with his pay increase as well?
He struggled. But he will see a increase in cap hit.

I agree with many of your overall points with a few exceptions. The Flyers need a top defenseman more than they need Konecny. Myers, while he might not have a lot of value in a trade, I will guarantee that he is still held in high regard around the league and by the Flyers as a player who has a chance to be a solid player in the future.

Honest question here as I have no idea…

Is there an order Seattle has to pick (like alphabetical) in the ED? Or can they pick random ? For example philly is obviously down the list alphabetically and if they have to pick that way wouldn’t we kinda know if they’re taking a bigger contract that we’d like… or do they announce the picks alphabetically after they’ve made their draft? In which case we’d kinda know because again alphabetically we’re down the list and if announcing their players we’d see the contracts they drafted. So if they already took high contracts we’d kinda know they aren’t taking ours. On flip side if they didn’t take any or few high contracts by the time they get to us we’d kinda know they were taking a big contract. I can’t remember with the Vegas draft

I honestly think the Jones trade talk is crazy and I hope the Flyers avoid it like the plague. Right now Jones is coming off a contract that paid him $5.4M. What do you think his next contract will be? I have to think its going to be something like $8M x 6 years. Do we really want to tie up this amount of money on Jones? Never mind the ton of assets we will spend to trade for him. I understand Jones is a good player and a 4 time all-star, and will get you 45-50 points per year which is good production. But is this what the Flyers really need at this point? Does it make them tougher to play against? I'm still in the camp of getting two top 4 Dmen that understand how to play in their own end and make a good outlet pass, versus getting one 50pt Dman that is soft in his own end.
- jd250

Look, for full disclosure, I realize it is difficult to get specific but tell me who those two players are and what it will cost to acquire? How old are they and how much term do they have on a current contract or a future contract? How does that help the FLyers for the long term?

I have to think Martinez looks at this at his last chance to bank some coin before he retires. He may just stay in Vegas if they want to resign him, I mean why wouldn't he? They are a great team in a great place to live. But if Vegas wants to move on I would think Martinez would want to get the most money he can, so if the Flyers want him, they will have to outbid others for him. After this season he might be a multiple time cup winner, so perhaps that won't be as important to him. But then if that's true, should the Flyers even want him? Sorry, just thinking out loud now.
- jd250

I think it's the opposite. I think he would want a fair deal and a chance to win. It's all speculation.

And I think the Bad news for the Flyers is Seattle will take Myers. Its bad news not because the Flyers will lose Myers, because I think he stinks, but after the ED the Flyers are essentially in the same place they are in now, with an aging and ineffective core and no cap space to do anything about it.
- jd250

I agree they will take Hagg or NAK...slight chance they take Ghost but doubtful..no chance they take JVR or Vorachek without some real Flyers sweeteners. Going to cost Flyers if they want to get rid of either

That's my point. One of the best parts of Provorov's game that we haven't been getting due to the situation is his 5 on 5 offense and ability to join the rush and fill holes and score. Same with Hamilton. I don't know if that mix works. Ideally Hamilton would be on a different pairing but them we need another RH shot or a D man who can play the right side with Provorov. Sanheim can play with Hamilton.
As far as the PP is concerned, Hamilton is an upgrade but you make a good point with Hamilton being a RH shot.

- MJL

Provorov looked overstressed as the main puck carrier... lot of turnovers on zone exits and those notable gaffes while playing the point in the ozone. He really missed having Niskanen shoulder part of puck-moving load more than anything, IMO.

Maybe a pairing w/ somebody like Hamilton would work. Prov's played well w/ Ghost in the past. Guess you really never know if two players will find strong chemistry until you actually put them out together.

Like Lidstrom/Rafalski and Murphy/Lidstrom and Murphy/Coffee always seemed weird on paper, but boy were those some good pairings.

Well I looked up video and Vegas jumped around non alphabetically on tv broadcast so I guess as the picks come in the later they announce philly pick the better idea we will have.

That was due to the situation with the team as a whole and the onslaught due to the poor team play. Provorov offensively is at his best at 5 on 5 on the attack and moving up on the play. Hamilton is very aggressive offensively.

You do never know. I'm just speculating.

You listed a bunch of hall of fame players.

I think its very hard to predict until you see who they take from other teams, and what they still need as players. Theres a chance JVR ot Ghost gets taken, also braun or NAK or maybe even sandstrom

I used to feel the same as you. But a few weeks back Bill chimed in on the comments section and explained that although JVR's cap hit is $7M for the next two years, the actual money owed is considerably less. That very well could make him the pick if Seattle is looking for a vet to get to the cap floor.
But I'm sure they'll have plenty of options to fill that "role", so it's still far from a given IMO. I would pay a reasonable sweetner to get them to take one of JVR, Jake, or Ghost. The cap space they would free up is far too valuable to the Flyers to risk Seattle taking someone else. I can't see any other team trading for one of those players without sending salary back in the deal. Unloading one of these guys on Seattle with a reasonable sweetner seems to be the only way to help the cap situation immediately so that any material moves could be made for this off season.

I don't know what I would consider a reasonable sweetner to be. It obviously vary by the player
