Top players face top competition, that's how it should be... Marner doesn't get a free pass..
Marner failed - PatC80
Well, someone is trying to make Nylander look like the top player. 🤷🏻♂️ I was just using common sense as to why his stats would be lower...especially if we’re going back years.
This year I agree, the top line failed when they shouldn’t have and he was terrible for the most...still doesn’t make Nylander better. Scoring and getting scored on just as much isn’t much better then what Marner and Matthews did.
I was hoping to see another Leaf Stanley Cup in my lifetime. Leafs have been damn good at reducing my hopes to simply see them winning a single round in the playoffs, and I have doubt that will even happen. I believe they call this Aethapy.

It just seems like you're making excuses for Marner.
Why wouldn't the guy making $10.9M per season face tougher competition?
Also, he should be able to produce against any line, not get scared of his own shadow.. - PatC80
We’ll disagree on “scared of his own shadow”
I’ve never noticed him leave a puck to avoid a hit.
Now, if we’re talking about always trying to be fancy and it causing some bad situations I’d agree 100%
Flipping the puck over the glass was him being fancy, not being scared. IMO

no, not really.. Just pointing out that Nylander has been better in the playoffs, you know, like when it matters?
It just means unlike Nylander, Marner has not been able to produce in the playoffs... We don't need a $10.9M winger that can't handle playoff hockey

flipping the puck over the glass when on the PK is not being fancy, it's being scared to take a hit, and yes, Marner did leave a puck to avoid a hit at least twice in the Habs series.

Disagree on this one, he'll eat a big piece of sh!t to not get hit and will not hit opponents. Reaching in with your stick (cowardly alternative) works sometimes, but sometimes leads to a rush going the other way with Mitchy sucking a hind tit. I still maintain it is up to the coaching staff to change this. Maybe training with Rocky Balboa in the summer and getting a few good punches in the gut will help him.

Hmmm...
Nylander = 5g, 3a, +3
Marner = 0g, 4a, +1
Nylander didn't get scored on "just as much"....although the same argument could be made for Nylander's line mates and defensemen were not the Leafs best so can he be blamed for all GAs...the best Leafs would be playing with Marner.
Carey Price was in net for both players, one player scored goals and the other didn't.
I guess we could check what D men or Forwards were on the ice for the Habs when Nylander scored too.
Your excuses for Marner don't hold water. He's paid more than other top talent in the league. He's paid to help the team win. He fu3king failed epically. His cap hit is now screwing up the whole make up of the team and good playoff performers are going to have to leave because we can't afford them - ie Hyman, he's making players around him NOT better, AND we DON'T get passed the 1st Round.... and all of this is because he under performs.
If he played in the playoffs like he plays regular season, I would have no problem with him or his Cap hit. He doesn't. He hasn't. He needs to go....so we can actually build the team to win a round at least.
Marner took TOO MUCH MONEY, somebody in his camp was really greedy, and now Marner is not living up to that. Plain and simple.

Maybe Carey Price just felt pity for Nylander and let him score?

Can’t agree here. Mitch took much more time to flip the puck with the toe of his stick than required if he was scared. I agree with Garnie, Mitch is more interested in how he looks on the ice rather than the results. Can’t be boring and like the rest of those other guys.

Maybe Keefe had a brain cramp and instead of loading up a line of players that were effective say Nylander/Kerfoot/Matthews, he saddles Matthews with Marner and Thornton and like a stubborn brick-head wouldn't change it.
