Greedy mitch
regular season mitch - senstroll
The whole core is soft. No killer instinct in any of them. That kind of dough someone has to act like Marchand once and awhile...even just once.
When they change the rules to the same as girls hockey, we’ll be right there every year. |

He's definitely regressed pretty heavily this year and doesn't look nearly as intimidating physically nor on the PP.
But the point has been made: these types of players are expensive. Shea Weber signed that deal 10 or so years ago. Imagine if he were in his prime and was UFA? - mjones242
Weber in his prime was something else. As close as you get to a perfect defenseman.

They all got overpaid or under termed. - Garnie
I disagree.
I think Matthews would have gotten an offer sheet for 12+. Obviously I don't know, but I think he would have. I'll accept that Matthews term was too short.
Nylander - at the time was a little overpaid in my opinion. But he has lived up to the contract in the regular season and now in at least one playoff.
I don't think anyone would have offered Marner the contract he signed. Which is why it's an overpay. Marner's absolute max should have been 10.5 million. That is the threshold when you need to give up 4 first round picks. If Marner signs an RFA offer for more than 10.5 million, you take the 4 firsts and walk.

Not many but there are a few.
Oleksiak, Chychrun, Nurse, Montour, Smith - winsix
Nurse and Chychrun would both be nice to have... Leafs should get both.

Nobody was paying them upfront like the Leafs. That alone should have been worth taking a little less money or more term.
That goes for all, Matthews should have been signed to that money for 8 years. IMO |

I don't know if it has already been discussed, but Mirtle's article in the Athletic says he doubts Hyman will be back.
Mirtle thinks he'll get over $6M on the open market.

Whay? It's true!
Massive point shot.
Clears the front of the net with ease.
Oozes respect.
Immune to crosscheck penalties unless the stick actually breaks on someone's back.
The man has it all!
