From what I saw of the game, the high skill team didn’t have that much trouble with the low skill team last night. What seemed interesting is that it looked like they changed up their system and had skilled guy dumping pucks, forechecking and creating turnovers.
That’s what AM/MM refused to do against Montreal because who needs to change what worked all year. The question about the core is not the money but can they, with the right guys, play this game. If Dubas and gang think Marner can do this, keep him, find the guys, reset the lines and play that game all season. That’s the priority, because that’s maximizing your core asset. If they decide Marner can’t elevate his game, cut him loose and bring in a big time power forward.
The only reason to go shopping for D is if they conclude they can’t extend Rielly. - Canada Cup
I get the sense that next seasons playoffs will be a make or break season for the big 4..

Trotz didn't mind the ridiculous Point "crosschecking" penalty that led to a goal for Islanders though... - Nasty_Duck
Yeah it evened out really. Trotz is just doing what all coaches do after playoff games. Trying to get calls for the next game. Why? Because it works. Scotty Bowman did it ALL the time in Detroit. And it worked.

The Leafs are not Tampa, but Tampa took a while to win the cup.
Isles just won't win with that roster. Neither will the Habs. It's between Tampa and Vegas. - RogerRoeper
This year, Im hoping neither the habs or Isles make it to the finals.
But either still could.
If Price turns it on again, he could carry the habs.
The Isles could beat tampa in 7.
It is possible, to say otherwise is foolish in my books......oh who am I kidding.....its one book. Foolish in my book.
Didn't you guys say this at the end of last season? - gergeswillems
Yes. I’m already done with this core. But Dubas won’t trade Marner, so I guess I’ll just enjoy the regular season because they aren’t winning in the playoffs.

Not so sure its all on the players. Trotz is getting a whole lot more from a whole lot less. - winsix
Trotz is getting a lot from his players, but it's too soon to blame it on Keefe.
They had a really good regular season and when he took over for Babcock, the Leafs went on a pretty good run the year before..
Against CBJ, we couldn't score enough and lost. Against the Habs, it was, well, I still don't know what it was? Bad luck, maybe?

It resulted in cups for Scotty because Detroit had the most talent.
The 2001-02 Red Wings were the oldest team to ever win a Cup. You would've traded 3/4 of the roster. - gergeswillems
And they were the most talented in the entire NHL. The age doesn't change that fact. Having Hull and Robitaille as bottom 6 forwards made them very old. They were so stacked.
