The Leafs are not Tampa, but Tampa took a while to win the cup.
Isles just won't win with that roster. Neither will the Habs. It's between Tampa and Vegas. - RogerRoeper
So the same guy who predicted a cup to Toronto for the last 2 years thinks the Islanders and Habs have no chance to win?
I don't hate this.

Isles just got the split in Tampa. Now they're heading back home. Great position to be in. |

NHL officiating is brutal, especially in the playoffs. How was Point getting crosschecked into the goalie a penatly on Tampa? The ref that called it was about 100 ft away from the play. Horrible call.

Yeah I don't know what else Point could've done there. He was literally checked right into Varly by the Isles player. Why was the 2nd ref added again? To not miss stuff like this? It's really working. |

It's well past the time to end this whistles go away in the postseason bullpoop. What kind of legitimate sport gets rid of the rulebook come playoff time and leaves it up to the refs to invent their own standard each game. 🤷🏻♂️ |

Not so easy for Isles IMO. Gooning it up at the end because they lost was a low class move. Unlike the Leafs, Tampa has some knuckle draggers that can settle things down if (when) Isles start to goon it up. |

More than likely Rielly gets moved out and that could very well be the "foundational" piece being alluded to.
I don't that sounds quite earth-shattering enough though. There are murmurs that this is the first year that the Leafs owners have been upset. Maybe the pressure will be there to do something more sweeping?
Dubas can't possibly think the Core 4 - at their current rate - can achieve playoff success, can he?
Watching a bit of the later rounds this year and it's absolutely clear (as always) that this is not the same hockey in any way, shape, or form compared to the regular season. Low event, low-skilled, counter-attacking teams, who rely on stellar goaltending are repeatedly rewarded. The Leafs are not that kind of team.
Surely Dubas can see this?! - mjones242
From what I saw of the game, the high skill team didn’t have that much trouble with the low skill team last night. What seemed interesting is that it looked like they changed up their system and had skilled guy dumping pucks, forechecking and creating turnovers.
That’s what AM/MM refused to do against Montreal because who needs to change what worked all year. The question about the core is not the money but can they, with the right guys, play this game. If Dubas and gang think Marner can do this, keep him, find the guys, reset the lines and play that game all season. That’s the priority, because that’s maximizing your core asset. If they decide Marner can’t elevate his game, cut him loose and bring in a big time power forward.
The only reason to go shopping for D is if they conclude they can’t extend Rielly. |

Probably something stupid like "the far away ref already called a penalty.... we can't go back on that call, even though it's obvious it wasn't a penalty."

Nothing is easy. Isles aren't intimidated by Tampa. It'll be a back and forth series. Maroon looked like he doesn't know how to fight. I guess he can scare some Isles with his beard. |

He does look pretty bad, probably too much blow from all those parties after winning the last two cups.

The problem extends beyond the players as well. Keefe and Dubas want to play a possession game, which seems to work well in the reg season. But we saw it quickly fall apart in the playoffs, the habs simply knew exactly what they were going to do and clogged the passing and shooting lanes. the leafs were too predictable |
