there were games that he seemed engaged and played way better at times he just did not hustle, instead took bad penalties ETC. maybe others saw it differential. I think with Q playing his old system and plyaing down the lineup he would play closer to old keith then here. again IMO

Your "tax argument" somewhat (altho not entirely) falls apart when you consider the "jock tax" that many states and localities reciprocally levy on athletes (and other entertainers) who play games in their jurisdictions - an athlete in a "no-income-tax-state" like Texas or Florida would pay a tax on income earned playing games in Illinois, NY and California.

It's a complicated formula, and doesn't completely equalized the state and local tax inequities, but it does exist.

He wouldn't sign with a CA team if taxes were the only thing that concerned him. He had the chance to go to any team that he wanted and could virtually call his own salary. I'm guessing taxes were about 19th on his list of concerns.

Same thing with Tavares. Why did he nail it down to the Isles or TOR? It sure as heck didn't have anything to do with taxes.

When you are making $2-3M+ per year, taxes (while I'm sure are discussed) are much less of an issue.

To call Zach a "mini Tom Wilson" might be a better description, or maybe not a good one at all. Tom Wilson's strength is his size and strength beside the NHL skills.

High skilled, high paced left winger who has an aggressive attack style that accentuates his excellent playmaking, scoring and ability to make adjustment in his skating cuts that most players are unable to do quickly. Is an aggressive penalty killer and is very responsible when his team doesn't have the puck. Really patient when he has the biscuit in scoring position, and a good finisher in tight, elevating the pucks to the top of the net. His trade to Halifax gives him more minutes and better opportunities than were afforded him in the Moncton elite veteran-laden lineup. He displays defensive commitment, and quick twitch offensive instincts have him creating on the fly. He adjusts quickly and effortlessly and is a terrific finisher who plays with edge. Doe everything it takes to win. One if the draft's good hands people, his thick lower body and all the other tools to become an NHLer. Very coimpetitive, but displayed lack of restraint when he took a game misconduct penalty for spitting on Drew Elliott. L’Heureux lost an edge and Elliott hammered him to the backboards while he was losing an edge and horizontall prone. This had L’Heureux lose it and go after Elliott, and as it ended spitting on him.

Former NHL goaltender Brian's son is a big bodied off-handed power wing with pro-caliber toolbox, a strong hard shot, and surprising quickness. Protects pucks well to his body, and places strong on the puck and displays hands soft enough to get the puck to his teammates for good looks when in the scoring areas. His jump and take no quarter physicality catches many a opposing players if their head is down. Very nimble and able to disengage from defenders in a few strides and is able make space inside or in the middle. Has an impressive and accurate shot that he really launches. Needs time to develop his on-ice reads and vision in order to see the ice and his options better but the soft hands are there. When he is more consistent and uses his linemates better, the sky is the limit. Committed to Boston U.

I can take as many of these signings as they do.

It makes the entire group in a competition, and says, "you cannot rest on your laurels, there is someone "like you" vying for your job.

This tells me that no one has anything guaranteed and they want more size.

Every long term contract is a problem if you aren't a playoff team and don't control what you pay guys that aren't winning you games, a lot of games.

Doesn't fix the D but sure adds a lot of scoring and Barkov, Toews, Dach up the middle or Toews moving to wing would be pretty pretty pretty good

Im starting to feel like Chaz Lucius has become the consensus #10 skater. maybe because Lysell sillinger and coronato project as wings. and a few draft boards seem to put Cossa and walstadt even. I still think our best asset mangement might be to move down unless somebody falls and trade out of the spot for someone that wants a goalie.

do people see barkov leaving FL? I do not. he would keep about $250K more per year on a $10 mil deal staying in FL compared to here. and that is assuming they dont raise taxes which at some point they will. stamkos stayed in FL for 8.5 but wanted to $10 mil to leave.

also its reported FL is going to aggressive this off season. I wonder is keith might be a option. he has 2 years left at 5.5 AAV but only owed $1.8 each year on AVG. I wonder what Q would give up. we could retain or take back a bad contract (do they have any) what about keith for stralman for a 1st and we send back vegas 2nd? I would think FL would be one of the few places keith would wavie to. I think Keith would be good in FL. he seems disinterested in the rebuild and Colton both.

Washington, Tennessee, Texas and Nevada all have 0% income tax. Arizona has a pretty solid balance of combined taxes so the overall burden isn't huge. If it was all about keeping monies then everyone would want to go to AZ or Dallas or Nashville.

I could see Barkov leaving FL to become the face of the Chicago Blackhawks and carrying that torch. The extra dollars he could recoup endorsement wise being in Chicago would probably cover his tax bill if not put him a bit a head.

if IL goes to 8% it costs him $400K more. I just do not see High end 26 years old leaving Miami for Chicago winters and a Chicago team that is rebuilding. I know I would not if the money was close.

one thing people miss is. if he makes $10 mil per year after agents and FED GOV/state for away games. he probably only takes home 5mil So $400K extra is not 4% different its 8%.

The IRS posted my 2019 payment to the year 2012, it took discussions with five agents and almost a year to fix. Those people are so incompetent, I’m not sure how they keep their job. Sorry, back to hockey.
