Please, just stop with the 40 goals already. Look up how many players score 40 goals and who they are. In 13 years Patrick Kane has done it twice. - rpeters01
30 goals is nothing to sneeze at either, playing on the Captains line
Cat did it in his 2nd full season, probably would of done it this year if they played a full season

Kubalik is not a problem a nice player to have on your third line. On your 2nd line he does not move the needle. He does one thing well, he's got a "plus shot." |

Besides scoring goals he also back checks, i’ll take him on my team anytime. Last time I checked scoring more goals than the other team wins games.

Any winning teams forwards do that. My mother used to say "there are no medals for doing what you are supposed to do." Trophies either. I like Kubalik, I like him as a 3rd line player we have an advantage in that situation.

Considering the year after Kubs contract expires, the following season $25 million come off the books, why? Just don't get trading a top 6 forward who can score 30 goals in a season, possibly 40. - BetweenTheDots

RE: POUR me another.
Well, at least it is another 22 year old who plays big and is big.
I can take as many of these signings as they do.
It makes the entire group in a competition, and says, "you cannot rest on your laurels, there is someone "like you" vying for your job.
This tells me that no one has anything guaranteed and they want more size.
Every long term contract is a problem if you aren't a playoff team and don't control what you pay guys that aren't winning you games, a lot of games. |

Theo and commenters have all touched on this and it bears repeating. The 'Hawks are in a good position to be in a more observant role this year as the league deals with a flat cap and other economic fallout/ravages from the COVID.
#1 on my wish list for the boys is they somehow get the next Tom Wilson, except this next guy is a completely clean player. I dream big. Or a guy like Hossa when he was with the Blackhawks. |

There’s a “next Tom Wilson” in the draft - Zachary L’Heureux, but Stan will be drafting Raty.
The Hawks are waiting to make a big UFA splash next season with Barkov. |

do people see barkov leaving FL? I do not. he would keep about $250K more per year on a $10 mil deal staying in FL compared to here. and that is assuming they dont raise taxes which at some point they will. stamkos stayed in FL for 8.5 but wanted to $10 mil to leave.
also its reported FL is going to aggressive this off season. I wonder is keith might be a option. he has 2 years left at 5.5 AAV but only owed $1.8 each year on AVG. I wonder what Q would give up. we could retain or take back a bad contract (do they have any) what about keith for stralman for a 1st and we send back vegas 2nd? I would think FL would be one of the few places keith would wavie to. I think Keith would be good in FL. he seems disinterested in the rebuild and Colton both. |

I say it because he seemed to not play hard or all out like he has in the past. there were many games he just did not see engaged especially later in the year and its a totally different system now then what Q ran.runs. IMO.

if IL goes to 8% it costs him $400K more. I just do not see High end 26 years old leaving Miami for Chicago winters and a Chicago team that is rebuilding. I know I would not if the money was close.
one thing people miss is. if he makes $10 mil per year after agents and FED GOV/state for away games. he probably only takes home 5mil So $400K extra is not 4% different its 8%. |

I can't remember who it was, or where I read it, but a former player who was traded from a Canadian team to Dallas said that he made 1.5 million more over the final 2 years of his contract than he would have if he stayed in Canada. I'm traveling to Chicago today, or I'd look for the article. |

if you looked at my math if only counted the tax rate as 1/2 so I accounted for that.

I looked him up, he sound pretty good ! Another physical forward the Hawks could get in 2nd or maybe 3rd round is Brian Boucher's son, Tyler Boucher. One site listed one of his weaknesses as having to tone down his play. If you have your head down, he will hit you. Projects as 3rd or 4th line player, but watching the playoffs, the 3rd and 4th lines are play an important part in each team's success.

there were games that he seemed engaged and played way better at times he just did not hustle, instead took bad penalties ETC. maybe others saw it differential. I think with Q playing his old system and plyaing down the lineup he would play closer to old keith then here. again IMO

My math may be off here, but according to this you are saying that he passed on making $1.5M more per year so that he could save $250K? I think we need to drop the tax argument, no? |

It's probably not a bad idea, but it all comes down to whether or not Keith wants to leave.
From the other side of the coin, he's now been in CHI for 16 years. He may not want to move, and let's consider this: I'm sure that there would be at least some interest in Keith if he were available (it's not like he's Timonen). If he had any desire to leave (because of coaching or lack of success), it likely would have already been done. |
