I didn't even notice ADA on the third pair before. |

leaving all that crap out of it, and sticking to hockey...
Tony D buyout saves 4.4 million of cap space that can be used to address actual needs
people really want to devote 4.8 million of the cap to the 3rd pairing right defenseman? - jimbro83
He’s a 2nd pair guy playing on the 3rd pair. I’m not saying he has to be a stalwart for the next 5 years, but it would be extremely foolish to just buy him out and get nothing in return. And stop saying cap space, we don’t need cap space this season coming up. If he was on a 5 year 5 per deal, yes in a few years we’re going to need cap space. But in the 2021-2022 season we can make a splash and still have cap space. At the end of the day it’s a new coach, new front office. He plays the way Gallant likes his guys to play, whatever went on between TonyD and Quinn isn’t our problem anymore, it’s whether or not Gallant thinks he can turn him around and get him to be a contributing member of this team. Sitting out an entire season and thinking he has 1 last shot to make things work should also get TonyD to clean up whatever it is he had going on. |

I can see Gallant giving TonyD another shot. He plays the type of game Gallant likes and TonyD wasn’t a locker room problem, his problem was with Quinn and JD/Gorts. All 3 are gone now, time for a fresh start. - nyrangers9479
His problem was with his teammates and his social media stupidity. I dont think the Rangers want him for 5.5. I think they buy him out. He cant be traded cause teams know the Rangers are buying him out and they can sign him for that show me deal. |

It would certainly be interesting to see Gallant coaching him (if it gets to that point).
I still agree with Jimmy on the buyout but I'm not gonna be upset if he's still around. If Gallant can't get through to him he will essentially be black balled I would think. |

I have seen the future....
the Rangers are gonna expose Tony D to Seattle in expansion draft
Seattle is going to take a different Ranger
the Rangers will then buyout Tony D and have a 333K cap hit for him this coming season
a team will sign Tony D to a 1 year 1 million dollar show me deal before the season starts - jimbro83

He doesn't and he is completely redundant. It's a shame but that's how it goes sometimes.
I think what irks most of us is the losing him for "nothing" part and I get it.
Try to look at the positives, there are a lot of them. I just want the damn playoffs to end so the real crazy season can start. - JRR1285
The Rangers have had poor asset management for years now. How many buyouts have the had??? Shatty was the biggest. You should be use to it by now. |

Who is a comparable great-offense/shyte-defense NHLer? Tyson Barrie is not nearly as bad defensively as DeAngelo. Yandle? He got benched down the stretch this season. - dashripdot
I think he’s better than Barrie. He’s Mike Green?
Deangelo can qb a PP1 very well, and we’re going to buy him out because we have no room for him to play?. It’s idiotic
My opinion has changed only because everyone got fired. I understood that the org had to move on. But they’re all gone lol Drurys opinion is probably the only one that matters now |

100%, if Gallant can’t turn him around then I’d be done with him also. What went on between him and Quinn was 2 guys that refused to give in and Tony feeling like he could get away with a little more bc Quinn was a rookie coach. And I don’t agree with Tony doing that, but that also goes back to weak leadership amongst the players. Someone in the locker room should’ve stepped in long before it got to the point it did. What happened between Georgie and Tony happens all the time, the end result wasn’t what happened that night, it was the end result of months and months of disagreements between Tony and Quinn. |

Tyson Barrie is a dumpster fire on defense, if you’re saying he’s better than TonyD, or really anyone for that matter on defense I have a bridge to sell you. |

Come on, TJ.
Fox, Trouba, Nils on the right.
Fox as QB of PP1, Jones as QB of PP2.
How can you possibly say we need him at that salary?
Does he have skills? Absolutely. Is he going to make a seamless re-entry into the locker room? No idea. Can he play defense? (frank) no.
When everything is considered the positive does not outweigh the negative, IMO.

I think things changed once everyone got fired. Dolan hasn’t said anything about that incident one way or another.

You’re missing my point (which wouldn’t be the first time). I don’t want to keep him lol. I want to trade him
Can people stop insulting my intelligence and just admit that trading him is better than buying him out? Lmao. Can we do this please |
