Wow coming into the playoffs I thought Montreal had the worst chance of all the teams to reach the Stanley cup finals. Got to give them credit. Just goes to show, make the playoffs and anything can happen - TPC
Agreed.
I thought Vegas was the only team that could beat Tampa. I don't expect the Fishsticks to win, but game 7 --- you never know! |

remember all the hate the Habs got for the Weber-Subban trade?
in reality one of best moves they've ever made

I seem to recall something about Nashville having to eat Weber's cap hit if he retires before the end of his contract. True? |

I don't think anyone saw the potential Finals to shake out the way they did.
But don't worry, my Devils buddy and I each put $5 on the Isles to win the Cup before the season started, so they either lose tonight or might as well hand the Cup to the Habs. |

Ya if he retires before a certain age his recapture penalty to NSH is something insane like 17 million 1 of the years
Edit just looked it up, it could’ve gone all the way up to a $24 million cap hit if he retired in 2025. Apparently they changed something in the last CBA however and the most they can be put on the hook for now in a single season is the AAV of his deal which is 7.85 |

Fun fact: Every time in NHL history that the Leafs and Habs have met in the playoffs, the winner has gone on to win the Stanley Cup. |

I feel like without Kucherov this game is 50/50 tonight, and probably overtime

I think its in the Habs best interest to try to keep Suzuki, Kotk and Danault as theyre C trio. |

Canadiens are just in phenomenal position right now, going to Cup final, they have 11 draft picks in this year's draft, decent cap space and some really solid young players
all this with Jonathan Drouin basically just quitting on the team |

That guy quit on the sport altogether a long time ago.
Habs should do the same as us, consolidate assets into some cost efficient solid hockey players. |

I think Seattle will probably take Jake Allen from them and if Drouin decides to play again next year they'll most certainly trade him

They could have kept Sergachev instead of trading him for Drouin. |

What happened with drouin? He left for personal reasons - nyrangers2
Likely couldn't handle the pressure. He put a large target on his back with his act in Tampa and then coming "home" to MTL where if you're a francophone from Quebec, you're required to be a god, probably started to crumble. I feel like his mental health hasn't been that good for years and he maybe just finally had enough. Hopefully he can figure life out and keep playing but he may be done. I feel like he's someone that would do great in say Dallas where there's no habs cult pressure due to his heritage and hockey is a bit low key there. |

What I mean about the pressure of playing in MTL:
https://thehockeywriters....onathan-drouin-situation/
The mayor of Montreal weighed in, demanding more francophones saying,
“There are many young and talented Quebecers and Montrealers who aspire to play in the NHL, the Montreal Canadiens must make an extra effort to get them. For their public. For the francophone metropolis of (North) America.”
