Exactly. Canadian teams need to at least have the option match post-tax salaries to help retain players. It is not fair for teams who rely on drafting/developing, nor the players who have to choose between their fan's loyalties, or their own personal financial future. Can't blame the players for taking the pay-day.
- bikeguy99

Tampa Bay and Florida do have one clear disadvantage and that is that every player on the roster requests a no-movement clause in order not to get screwed by the team on a later day by them being traded. It’s been one of the reasons that Tampa Bay has conveniently been getting players like Kucherov and company to suddenly have season ending injuries. I can’t imagine how hight the teams insurance premium is.

I like Copp's work ethic and smarts....but he has hands that were cast from concrete.
3rd liner on any NHL team.

We can talk about tax rates and weather forever, but the reality is that there are only 20 jobs in Arizona, 40 in Florida, and so forth. Someone has to play in the less desirable cities.

What are we talking about exactly Rexy and what is a "power killer" in hockey??

Aren't you fancy stat people all about shot attempts?

- JetFuel

A power killer is a player that both A: limits shots and scoring chances against to a high degree, and B: actually creates shots and scoring chances on the penalty kill.

Copp does both exceptionally well

Saying Copp is a 3rd liner does not make it true. He was out 3rd best forward, and we’re supposed to be a “deep” offensive team

You saying he was our 3rd best forward also does not make it true. He had a good season, but a lot of good fortune as well.

The lowest you could have ranked him was 4th. Rexy hates Conners defensive game though so he has him 3rd.

People don't seem to realize he was tied with Horvat for points.

I hope I can find my excitement for next year but right now i have none. I just can not knowing Maurice will be back because that means all this;

-wheeler will be over played in top 6 and on top PP, he will continue to get more ice time and PP than ehlers

-because we dont meet the criteria on forward for amount of players to expose, this will be used as an excuse to sign a couple vets. but the problem is not that, the problem is then Maurice will play those poopy vets over Gustaffson and vesalainen.

-Maurice has already said there is no way he plays heinola, samberg and stanley at the same time

-no way he gives more than 1-2 rookies a chance

-chances are we over pay crappy vets to sign here

-chances are we keep the same garbage systems, so even if we do bring in good players they are set up to fail cause Chipman and Maurice are now best friends and chipman wont !!!! fire !!! Maurice!!!!

- Ross77

This seems like the most likely outcome unfortunately, I'm not too hopeful/excited for next season either, the coach and GM's comments in the final presser killed any optimism I had left for this organization.

I appreciate that you know me well enough to know both A: who my top 4 are, and B: why

Rexy’s official forward rankings for last season:
1: Nikolaj Ehlers
2: Mark Scheifele
3: Andrew Copp
4: Kyle Connor
5: Paul Stastny
6: Matthieu Perreault
7: Mason Appleton
8: Adam Lowry
9: Blake Wheeler
10: Kristian Vesalainen
11: Dominic Toninato
12: Jansen Harkins

Dubois gets a bye because his entire season was f*cked. Nobody else warrants consideration for me.

I’d move Lowry to 6 and keep everyone else the same.

For D I’d go;
1.pionk
2.Demelo
3.Poolman
4.Morrisey
5.forbot

-Stanley didnt play enough against top 6 and when he did, against Montreal, it wasn’t good but small sample so I’ll wait.
-Heinola didn’t get to play at all cause Maurice hates him
-Benn, Beaulieu, are not worth mentioning
-Niku also never got a chance

But overall sad list.

Flaherty gets the #1 spot by way of being completely irrelevant.
Everyone else is in a tie for 2nd, which is also last, because they have all failed at every stage.

Lowry gets a bye, but he’s on thin ice already.

Hugged his phone, desperately hoping the NHL doesn’t step in to axe every former member of Blackhawks management?

Brief rundown: Blackhawks video coach sexually assaults two players. Upper management knows about it, quietly lets him go, and does not address it in any way whatsoever.

They then write a letter of recommendation for said video coach, allowing him to secure employment at a high school where he then sexually assaulted a 17 year old boy.

Bergevin, Chevy, and Quenneville are among those implicated

This is an interesting article. From me reading the article it looks like Bergevin did not have any knowledge of what occurred. Chevy and Quenville are refusing comment at the moment.

Entirely possible Bergevin didn’t know.
But it seems highly unlikely

They went further than just quietly letting him go, they allegedly covered it up by refusing to contact police, not an act omission but a decision to cover it all up.
