Sorry I meant Geekie. Bingo will likely tell me to (frank) off. Which is fine. But those types of deals. Like when he got a 2nd round pick to take Marc Staal's rotting hockey carcass for 1 season.

Depending on the prospect I could see Yzerman being open to anything really. He's stockpiling picks to take as many kicks at the draft can as possible.

Would be very unique.

We haven't seen a team retain salary for another team on a long term deal...but Dubas and Yzerman are innovators.

I'd imagine the cost would be relative to how much it cost for a team to get rid of a 4-5M salary for one year...which has been 1st rounder on the high end and a 2nd on a low end.

Leafs:Kane(1.5M retained by Red Wings)

Red Wings:2022 1st round pick

Sharks:Kerfoot, Amirov, Niemila

Think the Sharks would welcome 7M being off the books as well and still getting a top prospect in return as the major piece

Yzerman would definitely be interested in the Sharks first round pick in 2022 which is supposed to be a much better draft. But I don't know. I'm not a draft guru.

I have that being the Leafs 1st round pick.

Don't see that 1.5M being an issue at all. The 4th year it might be an annoyance as I am sure they would like to add at that point.

But would be a smart way at getting picks.

So you have the Leafs trading Kerfoot, Amirov, Niemela, 1st for Kane essentially? Wings get the Leafs 1st for eating Kane's 1.5 mil AAV for 4 years?

Hmmmm not sure Yzerman would do that because he's still paying Abdelkader's buyout money. Nielsen and/or Dekeyser could be bought out this summer. If you add Kane's 1.5 mil zombie money then we're looking at around $10 mil in dead cap space.

It's affordable now because we have a ton of cap space. But Vrana, Bertuzzi, Hronek will need raises. Zadina will get his bridge contract soon. Cap space will shrink as we improve. If Seider is the stud D I believe him to be then he'll get paid in a few years.

I'd probably still do it but Yzerman is much smarter than me. But good out of the box thinking by you. 👍

Yep.

Maybe its too much or too little I dont know..its a confusing deal.

But essentially Red Wings get a Leafs draft pick for taking on 6M over 4 years.

Leafs get Kane at 5.5 M so they can fit him without trading any of the core.

Sharks get a package of prospects and Kerfoot plus cap space to add in FA.

GM should be angry at Yzerman for doing this but it would be jealousy

I assume anyone lottery protects the 1sts in 2022/23, if traded

GM's shouldn't be angry. If a GM can take advantage of his cap space then he should weaponize it. So many teams are up against the Cap and Yzerman is sitting back to see who he can take advantage of. Like the Blues with Vince Dunn. He'll be traded before the Expansion draft. Army will have to take less than what he'd normally get.

Teams are waiting to see what Tampa does but there's already rumours of Hedman needing surgery this summer. Here we go again, right? But JBB will still have to move Tyler Johnson. He's a $5 mil 4C. 🤣

darn close to it

and do we want to see 4 ~ 5 players taken 75% of the cap be used by them.

- dmnted

Acquring Hamilton means you move Rielly.

The Leafs can absorb the additional 3-3.5M~ that Dougie would likely cost.

Kessel's contract finally off the books after next season will also help.

Imagine the Leafs traded Nylander for Anderson when they had the chance how good they’ be?

Looks like the they’ll be stuck with that floater and his boat anchor contract for the next couple years. Also Keefe has to go. He got dog-walked by a complete unknown Ducharme, pretty embarrassing.

Don't let the fact the Habs are in the CF distract you from the fact Andersons contract is horrible and Nylander's contract is great.

Agreed but GMs also hate seeing good teams find ways to get better up against the cap.

I have no doubts the Red Wings will have their fingerprints all over this offseason. It will be a strange one I think..

I expect Yzerman to be more active this summer. He's almost done getting rid of Holland's dead wood. His moves usually come out of nowhere. There was zero smoke about Vrana going to Detroit and then BAM! He's a Red Wing. Holland used to use his press dummies to leak everything. It was annoying. I heard about Mike Green being a Red Wing for 3 years before it became official.
