Kind of not sure if I want Hamilton - Santo_44
Leafs could really use Dougie's bomb from the point on the PP. But if you're keeping the BIG 4 and paying Petro money for Dougie, how can you really fill out the rest of your team with quality depth? You can't sign 10 Spezza's. |

Slavin is great. He caries the load in the D zone. His numbers also get a big boost when he plays with Hamilton though.
Dougie just does things that most other defenders aren't capable of or wouldn't even think to try. - BINGO!
Really wonder how much he'll get.
I think everyone would love adding Hamilton for their team.... maybe something similar to Pietrangelo? A little less?

They could. They had some really sick goaltending last year and a lot of questions in net. If they lose Hamilton, they would really need Bean to step up. - AdamFrench
Yeah if Hamilton walks they need Bean to step up AND they'll need to make a bigger acquisition elsewhere in the lineup.
You can't lose a 15-20 goal defenseman like that and not take a big hit.
And the odds of Nedeljkovic continuing to post league best type numbers are pretty (frank)ing slim.

I think Leafs go younger and cheaper in the depth positions.
For me the need is quite clear...A good forward to play with JT and Willy. And I want this gut to be a big personality and a big name.
Friedman said the other day he thinks they get a guy who really changes the attitude in the lockeroom.
Not sure that's Hamilton and I don't think the upgrade on Rielly is worth it right now.IMO |

If he wants $7.5 I sign him yesterday. If he wants $8 I'm okay with it but it gets a little tricky. If he wants $8.5+ see ya later. It's just too much with the level of cap uncertainty and guys like Svechnikov and Necas needing deals soon too.
Hell, Aho needs a new contract in three years before they slap a C on his chest. |

If they all laughed at the same time people would die.
Anyway, everyone here wants Dougie so I don’t see how they have any choice. If they conclude they can’t sign Rielly then they have to do something but it starts with figuring out what they’re doing with Rielly. |

I wouldn't say no.
I still think its E.Kane if I had to guess. I think Leaf fans will be a bit surprised though.
I wouldn't rule out any big name forward. Insiders seem to know Dubas has been sniffing around some big names and I think he isn't afraid to get creative and pay to retain salary here. |

Reading the original article (Mirtle), it sounds like Lou was trying to pull this off in the late evening of June 30th.
It never had any hope of happening. |

That's the thing. If Rielly wants to stay in Toronto and is willing to accept what the Leafs offer him (6 mil AAV?) then would it make more sense than giving Dougie 9.5 mil AAV? |

If they can sign Hamilton for a reasonable amount and then trade Rielly for assets, that's improving the team.
And I read somewhere on the weekend that apparently Foligno wants to return to Toronto.
Should be an interesting off-season. |

He came with his dads Leaf hat and chose the pressure cooker that is Toronto...The guy is proud and I imagine he is at least considering it.

Habs waived Perry twice and no team claimed him. I never understood that. The guy is money in the playoffs. Always has been. |

Why would he?
He's having a blast playing for his childhood team and is now in the final four.
Habs are likely to bring him back too.
