The sign and trade has never happened in the NHL, and it never will.
Player X goes to a golf tournament in June and lets Player Y know that he's interested in signing with that team as a UFA. Calls are made. Discussions are had.
It's not in Player X's best interests to agree to a sign and trade, because he's unnecessarily weakening the team he's going to for the next 8 years.
8 vs. 7 years isn't that big a deal for superstar players.
Friedman knows this. It's franking embarrassing that he's floating this. - Atomic Wedgie
Actually, scratch the whole golf tournament thingy.
NHL GMs now have permission to speak with him - they don't have to go the sneaky route.
FFS, why would I trade for Hamilton's rights when I can just negotiate a 7-year deal with him, and not have to worry about having to expose him to the expansion draft? |

exactly, this makes absolutely no sense any year, even less this year with expansion draft. |

Its his job to shared updates and changes within all teams.
The canes have allowed hamilton to talk to teams, whether that leads to an actual sign and trade is out of his control. But he has to report on it.
Creates chatter. Not sure its embarrassing |

One issue with spreadsheets is they don't account for refs allowing Isles to clutch and gran their way to a final. I really wish they simply called penalties. - RogerRoeper

It's possible Rielly would have CBJ on his M-NTC list but the reason why CBJ would make that deal is because the Leafs would have to sweeten the pot. Rielly would also be an asset they could trade at the deadline.
As an aside, I don't think Nolan Patrick is an asset at this point that would bring back any value. Some teams may want to take a flier on him but he isn't moving the needle on any deals out of PHI.
Leafs should stay away from Domi. Jenner though: yes, please! - mjones242
Agreed, forget about domi. Dont want him at all. |

Apparently it was almost done with JT.
Once lou realized he was going to Toronto, apparently he was going to ask for martin and koma plus.
According to an article i read. Not sure of the validity |

Carolina might well regress, They aren't
't spending enough $ to truly contend. Rod the Bod might leave too. |

Clutch and gran? Isles couldn't possibly be earning their playoff wins. Not this year or last year or the year before that. It's the refs. Randomness. Thanks, Jimmy. The Isles are everything the Leafs aren't. But maybe they're just lucky. - gergeswillems
Not so, really well coached team. The little troll behind the bench is probably the best coach in hockey. Team plays with structure, discipline and an excellent trap system. Some teams especially the Leafs have difficulty adapting to the significant difference in officiating from regular season to playoffs. I personally dislike it, but its reality. Two types of infractions I've seen let go in the playoffs regularly are picks and clutching and grabbing. All the successful teams are doing it. Colorado didn't, neither did the Leafs

They have a good stable of D, they can afford to let Hamilton go.
They still have our old superstar Jake Gardiner waiting in the wings.

My recollection is that the JT signing was perhaps the most widely covered UFA signing ever. I recall both TSN and Sportsnet sending reporters to the hotel where presentations were being made. When it got to that point, I am not sure what motiviation the Leafs would have had to an extra year for a 35 year old at big $ plus give up assets. So while Lou might have made such a proposal, it seems unlikely to me that the Leafs would have even given it a second thought.

Carolina is in a good spot, great owner, good young core, in good cap shape. Biggest issue I see is they need a goalie or two. Maybe they can sign the Zamboni driver.
