Its the fact fans wanted to stupidly trade a talented young player because they weren't happy with the production.
Sugar coat it all you want, its stupid to trade top of the league young players. - Santo_44
Not as stupid as only dressing 9 forwards and 5 D all year because we signed do not have cap space for more. |

Most people still can't spell Fedorov correctly and he's in the Hockey Hall of Fame. How on earth do you expect people to spell Kevinjerks? |

Big shout out to the Lou and Komarov haters
At this point I am cheering for a Habs - Isles finals, just to put the 'we know hockey by looking at the excel sheets' crowd back in their place and shut them up for a while.

Worked with business performance measures my entire career. Embarrassed to say I simply cannot figure out how hockey analytics actually offers anything reasonably assuring on how we should go about building a winning hockey team and culture.
Could someone explain to me how how regular season hockey analytics gave us some insight into understanding how well these Islanders have done in the playoffs (this year and last)?
Is it possible to award annual Analytics Trophies? The Analytics Stanley Cup goes to...? The Analytics Norris Trophy goes to...?
Analytics is a fraud and a scam. It leads to paying Marner as much as Barzel and Pageau combined. Dumb and dumber!
I don't think it is all Dubas. I think it has something to do with Leaf culture and especially the media. The media did not make it easy for Dubas to resist the demands of the Marner camp. I saw on this thread that Joe Fan did not support the huge contract for Marner. Yes, fans wanted him signed but they had a value that was different than the what the Marner camp wanted.
I really like Marner. But you cannot pay that kind of money to a guy who is guaranteed to disappear as soon as the post season begins. He needs to go. But, is it even possible for the Leafs to move that contract?

Jones for Rielly seems to be the only one that I'd really consider. At least he'd make the powerplay better and is more physical. Rielly could walk, just like Jones, a year from now. Rielly is a BC boy, so he really doesn't have roots in the GTA to speak of. Maybe getting Jones keeps Foligno around as well. If the core needs to stay the same, than this could be the biggest and balsiest move that Dubas could make. It's now time to go for the gusto and take your last best shot at getting this team over the hump. - PrinceLH
While I don't think Jones has the value some do because everyone knows BJs have to deal him and he's UFA, they will want picks/prospects back.
And Rielly's dad litterally thanked god the Leafs picked him. He grew up in a Leafs-loving household. He wants to stay. |

One issue with spreadsheets is they don't account for refs allowing Isles to clutch and gran their way to a final. I really wish they simply called penalties. |

But will he want to stay at a cap friendly number and not want to max out, like some of his younger team-mates? I'd give Rielly an 8 year, 7M contract, if he wants long term security, but it has to be reasonable. Although Marner is a great regular season player, he has no business with a 10.5M cap hit as a winger. His numbers are inflated, because of Matthews. Matthews seemed to get scorched by the fanbase, like Marner, but he had the tougher assignments against the Habs best checkers and excelled in the faceoff dot, plus played with a physical edge. Something that Marner didn't bring to the table. |

this reg season they were 3rd in high danger CF%
1- Avs
2 - Leafs
3 - NYI
They are on the good side of the quality chances a lot of the time. probably a good system that trotz has.
with playoff hockey, randomness in hockey and luck/skill ratio I am not sure why its surprising to anyone we see a lot of underdogs or upsets...but I wouldnt call the isls an underdog, they were good all season |

The thing is, Rielly did not have the stas/acccomplsihments when he signed his 6 year deal Nylander, Marner and Tavares did. Marner cashed-out because he had 94 pointds the year before he signed.
He likely wants to make a killing. this is his big one. Leafs have to decide this summer if they want him back at a high number. They have to stop this "own rental" stuff. It's not working.
If they sign Rielly again, I would move Muzzin. He'll likely slow down soon and has 3 years left. And Sandin is LD. I'm not really thrilled with the idea of him being 3rd pair D. Let him play and develop. |

Just don't trade him for Marner...
Oh wait, trade him for Marner, cause you know, at least you'll make the playoffs. |
