From what I understand, his family is quite entrenched in the Columbus community -- but who knows? I like what he adds to this team but I just don't think we can keep him for the price he'd be asking.
I wonder if Boone Jenner might be an option? Imagine the Leafs had him when Snake went down with an injury?
Who knows? Maybe there's a blockbuster that can be had with CBJ involving Rielly, Jones, et al. - mjones242
I am doubting it...but the guy chose Toronto and came in a mission wearing his dads old Leaf hat He may have some drive to give it a year here...You know CBJ will always be there for him next year.
It sounds like CBJ will listen on about anyone by the sounds of it.
Jones would be nice but I doubt he signs anywhere before testing FA next year...which would be the whole point int trading Rielly. But who knows I wouldn't say no to anyone on that roster...seems like they built a good locker room there in terms of people and attitude. |

If Marner signed a 3x7 bridge deal, I wouldn’t be saying to trade him. The reality of spending 33.5M on 3 forwards (3 out of the 7 highest cap hits in the league) while being in the middle of a flat cap can not be ignored. This isn’t like anything another team has had to deal with before.
But it’s okay, Holl is in the top-4. - Steven_Seagull
Apparently, the Leafs D is top notch and requires nothing more than some minor tweaking for next season.
We desperately need to figure out how to score goals in the playoffs and should focus all of our efforts and monies on improving our offence (even though we have 3 of the top 6 forward salaries in the NHL).

I've heard rumblings about Jones and Werenski (MAGA?) not seeing eye to eye with the rest of the roster.
But speaking of Jones, he very well may want to test the UFA waters but Rielly is UFA also -- so why not make a trade to improve the D and let the chips fall where they may in the off-season next year?

You can a lot of cap space by trading the 10.9m floater - Steven_Seagull
Not sure you know what floater means.
It describes 1 of our wingers but not Mitch.

Marner is a soft perimeter player. To win in the playoffs you need guys who are willing to go to the net and chip in a dirty goal - we need more Nylanders. |

It was funny but I don’t think they trade either guy. 🤷🏻♂️

Yeah, probably not.
We can still get Ekblad and keep the Big 4. I did the maths. |

Jones for Rielly seems to be the only one that I'd really consider. At least he'd make the powerplay better and is more physical. Rielly could walk, just like Jones, a year from now. Rielly is a BC boy, so he really doesn't have roots in the GTA to speak of. Maybe getting Jones keeps Foligno around as well. If the core needs to stay the same, than this could be the biggest and balsiest move that Dubas could make. It's now time to go for the gusto and take your last best shot at getting this team over the hump. |

Not sure...Both are a bit overrated for sure.
I don't know why CBJ would take an expiring contract back if the reason they are trading Jones is because they don't sign.
I am thinking CBJ will want to load up on 19-23 year olds and run with that to try and be competitive but still likely draft high.
Send Jones to PHI for Nolan Patrick, 1st and a prospect.
Bjorkstrand plus Jenner/Domi(50% retained) for some good young assets on the Leafs .
I think that would be a good offseason for them.
FYI Rielly has no trade protection and I'd be willing to bet CBJ is on most players list this offseason... |
