Maybe, in my opinion the top end of this draft is pretty interchangeable and he’s far from a lock as it is. The biggest edge he had over the field was that he is the most nhl ready so with that gone and Buffalo having to wait a year anyways the choice does become tougher.

That's for 3rd rounders that have hit/miss potential when they are drafted so they stay and get an education. The fact that they mature into legit prospects isn't guaranteed

a 1st overall isn't going to forgo 3 years of guaranteed salary in the NHL for 3 years of education as a "backup" in case hockey doesn't work out
