That’s all good except Rielly and Brodie did a good job defending especially considering how many minutes Rielly played. Defence wasn’t a problem all season long and it wasn’t a problem against Montreal. Rielly not hitting people didn’t cause Matthews to shoot over the net or hit posts. - Canada Cup
Agree that Matthews shooting was lousy. How many Habs goals were scambles in front of the Leaf net where opponents were allowed to sweep curling style until it went in? How many times did Suzuki get cross-checked in the head the way Hyman did on a scoring attempt? (no call) How many times did a Leaf player get a $5000 fine instead of a five minute major for a vicious cross-check?

Nylander wasnt the Leafs best player.
Most players were bad, Nylander was meh (some of you make it sound as if Nylander was dominating 7 games vs Price...).
for the rest you're right. - MaximusAurelius
Which forward was better? He had 5 goals and 3 assists and did not have as much ice time as either Matthews or Marner.

Disagree - most UFA signings don't go as planned. Leafs need a good young d-man on a good contract that can be obtained. Flames are in blow it up mode. Leafs should be calling about Hanafin and getting it done. With Leafs cap structure at the moment, going after a UFA d-man not likely. - winsix
Disagree with your disagreement. All it takes is a few shifted pieces (e.g. Rielly) to make it happen.
Also, Noah Hanifin is mediocre.
Look, I'd be happy with bringing in guys like Oleksiak to bolster the d-corps but if the Leafs are going to move on from Rielly they're going to need someone who can play legitimate top pairing minutes. There's not too many guys like that that are available and you pay a premium for those who can.
If Rielly goes who replaces his minutes and for how much? And do you go with Rielly for a year and let him walk?

Price didn’t let any of these goals in.
Killers, every year it seems. - Garnie
Nah - Campbell did his job.
Zebras (frank)ed the Leafs for sure, and Keefe's meek coaching style didn't work.
Slew foot (no suspension - no penalty) by Chiarot - followed up by Perry running over him and kneeing him in the head. (also no call or suspension) Wonder what Schiefele thought of this accidental play?

Uhm, take a look at their cap. They could afford the toy and food for the kids. Do you want Mik to go to bed at night without soup?
Anyway, we just disagree on what the top priority is in term of new acquisitions. I don’t think it’s defence unless they come to the conclusion that Rielly is leaving. - Canada Cup
Vegas had to dump Nate Schmidt for pennies on the dollar to make it happen but make it happen they did. And they managed to keep their very expensive goaltending pair to do it (not that they wanted to).
The gap between the haves and the have nots is growing in the NHL. You're going to start to see mid-tier players taking paycuts to stay employed.
I'm not worried that the Leafs won't have a steady supply of mid-tier dudes playing bottom 6 or third pairing mins to make room for a guy like Dougie + Core 4.
Rielly is leaving this year or next. Holl isn't a Top 4 answer and might be going to Seattle.
The D is volatile whether you think it's good enough (it's not) or not (it isn't).

The North division wasn't a problem all season long because it (frank)ing sucked. Hard.
You're overrating the D. You're also willfully giving Rielly a pass after failing excessively hard this season (and post-season) on the PP.

The issue isn’t comparing the defence to the North Division. It’s comparing the defence to the offence and their relative needs. In my mind the offence which I seem to recall also played in the North Division needs more than the defence.
Yes, Rielly was a member of a very bad PP. I know we like to blame everything on one person .

Sorting out a deal or if there is a deal with Rielly should be a top priority. I’m not sure you or I know.

I think it was an accident, as the last few years showed you can’t have weak goals going in. At least I have some extra nights off from the tube now.

It's rather simple Cupsie. Going waaaaaaaay back - "I'd rather be a hammer than a nail"
Way too many nails on the team. Smalls that play like smalls, bigs that play like smalls and Marner who makes $11 million and plays like certain cast members of the Wizard of Oz.

The offence is fine. Tavares missed 99% of the playoffs. Foligno got hurt and was not the same guy. Hyman was playing hurt.
Losing Snake alone was devastating to this team.
The offence is fine. The defence is still weak and may become weaker yet if Holl is selected by Seattle.

I wonder how Habs fans would have reacted if this accident happened to one of the Habs best players in the first three minutes of the series. We saw the reaction when Scheifele took out a fourth liner with a much less vicious hit.

Except he was. You are letting your hate cloud your judgement here.

They would have called the cops to report a crime.
