Jarry and Pettersson for Fleury
Zucker for Ekholm
Encourage Seattle to take Matheson.
Add whatever pieces are needed to get the deals done. - 668710
Ekholm would be a nice replacement for someone on the left side. |

Anderson 31, MAF 36, Kassian 30, Ekholm 31. The Pens need to get younger not older. |

I like Ekholm, but I doubt Zucker gets it done.
The 4 goalies that are left in the playoffs are all elite goalies. Ryan Wilson used to say how you should never pay an elite goalie because they arent worth it. Vasilevsky makes $9.5M, Price makes $10.5M, and MAF makes $7M. So clearly the investment in a good goalie has been worth it for these teams.
I'm doing everything I can to get Gibson this offseason, but I recognize the price might be too high and/or Anaheim isnt willing to move him. He is signed to a very good contract and I think he could easily be that elite goalie we need. If I cant get Gibson, then I'm looking through free agency. I would keep DeSmith and tempt Seattle to take Jarry. I'm not sure what the goalie market would look like for them, so maybe it works. I dont love the idea of Andersen, but it wouldnt be the first time we went and got a piece that didnt work out in Toronto.
On offense, I like a lot of our forwards. I'm dumping Zucker and possibly Rust. The free agents I target are Blake Coleman and Brandon Saad. I'd also look at Hyman, Tatar, and Granlund.
On defense, I move Pettersson, for futures/cap space. I'd tempt Seattle with Matheson if they arent interested in Jarry. A long shot, but crazier things have happened. Ceci probably prices himself out of here and good for him. He played well this season and deserves a shot. I want POJ in the lineup next year. I'd look at Oleksiak and Savard for help from the outside if you clear the cap space.

Kassian would be a terrible pickup. He has no offensive skill what so ever. If you insist on having a tough guy, sign a cheap guy to play in the AHL or sit in the press box.
The ages of Andersen and MAF dont bother me. Plenty of goalies play well after 30.

Who cares about age, just get better. You watch Carter play or no? Kassian I don't want, Anderson I don't want because I don't see them as any upgrade. |

Kassian had a bad season with injuries but the year prior he was pretty good in the top 6.
By no means should he be a top target but if you want a guy who can play a physical game, scrap and play up and down the lineup you could do worse.

Carter hadn't played well for three years. He got hot facing sub par goaltending here. He's not going to continue to play like he did before he injured his knee. He belongs in the Matt Cullen role. |

The four teams left are also some of the heaviest. Vegas and Tampa being one-two.

Im pretty sure Cullen produced at a third line rate here during the cup runs at age 39 and 40. Because he was just a good player. What? He just get hot for 2 years straight while facing sub par goaltending too? Oh wait you'll have another excuse, matchups? Carter was also playing second line for the most part while here so I don't see how he can't be a really good 3c for us next season. |

Surely you didn't think Buffalo, New Jersey and Philadelphia iced competent goal tenders during Carter's run do you?
Also, I don't remember Cullen having any major injuries during his career that slowed him down.

Sure, he got a bump from playing bad teams buy he looked solid . How much of his game going down was playing on a bad team with lesser linemates. He will do fine at 2C and great as a 3c next year. Don't know why there is a need to poo poo a guy who came in at the deadline and played great hockey. |

I dont know why I forgot about Ekholm but like everyone is saying, he would be the perfect pickup. Just don't know if they are trading him anymore or if we could afford him.
He is far superior to Savard and Foligno and they netted a first plus. His contract is incredibly cheap as a top 4 rental.
I think it would cost us a 1st and Legare minimum to get him. |

My main point originally, was we're too old and getting older isn't the direction we should be heading.
I didn't bring up Carter here. I'm just trying to temper expectations. He played great in the three weeks I saw. Far exceeded anything I expected. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think that's the Carter we're going to get next season.

I think average height and weight are bs as every team is either 6’1” or 6’2” and are within 13 pounds of each other. Although Pitt is the 2nd lightest lol. Vegas plays a heavy, physical game though in the playoffs. Aside from their 4th line they aren’t an overly physical team regular season. They have a pretty big defence that isn’t overly physical. 5’9” marchesault has been racking up hits and playing pretty tenaciously through the playoffs. |

The difference between #1 and #10 is 4 pounds though. - Blackstrom2
The accuracy of this category is suspect, size is inflated. Weight is a fluid thing also, anyone can go up or down five pounds depending upon your activities, fluid intake, etc.
It's still an average of four pounds per man. Sullivan, RW, and some on here talk like their isn't a correlation to winning and size. Yet, every year, the heaviest teams are the ones fighting it out for the Cup.
Why? We all know the skill guys aren't the biggest players, so that's not the reason.
It's the supporting cast. The game is punishing. It takes a lot of physical strength to play, sometimes it's just better to be bigger and stronger than your opponent.

Pens should definitely not be looking into trades like that anymore. Adding Ekholm wouldn't make them top contenders. |

Carter could be our answer to the left side half wall on the power play.
Fifteen goals from him would be great. We have others here who, if given the opportunity, can do the same. I'm not sold on getting older just because of what Carter can do.
