A legit contender that's basically Toronto West with how every year they take an early exit, stage left in the playoffs.

If a decent roster player each comes back in an Eichel, Reinhart, Ristolainen or other major trade, and a decent goaltender is acquired then the prospect of playing with someone like Dahlin alone is all the more appealing.

The Sabres can make enough moves this off-season to be a much improved team next year, the problem is will they?

But it's a pipe-dream anyway.

however, this whole "not signing until after the expansion draft" sounds like circumvention and they should make a rule that an UFA can't sign with the same team after an expansion draft, should there be one.

Teams have to submit their lists of protected players by July 17, and they have to expose at least two forwards and one defenceman who played at least 27 games in the 2020–21 season or more than 54 games in the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons combined

Depends on who get traded!
