It’s their age. Very few players play good to they are 35. You want landeskog? Sign him to a 2 year 24 million deal. We will have the cap. Then when our core is ready we are done with him and move onto a guy that fits our timeline and have a good cap.

You know why teams aren’t keeping guys them selfs? Because they sign dumb contracts on other guys until they are 35

- Fattony1187

I'm done with adding older guys for "the veteran laedership" theory where theyhas been on the ride to bottom 5 finishes for 8 friggin years.

Admittedly, Landy is a very good player and solid citizen so he probably is very much different...but like Tony said, the 6 year term is too long.

Also, draft character guys who lead, play relentlessly and you don't need vets to lead the young core around by the nose.

Some of those guys are hall of fame talent. I can easily name more guys that are that are horrible contracts.

Stop signing guys until they are 35.

You do know that issue with Greenway was getting him to play to his size? Why do you assume he has snarl, because he is big? Good kid, with mammoth size and skill set, but hardly the “snarly” type. Not saying I wouldn’t want him on my team, but you’re not getting Tom Wilson.
- 33eagle

I don't want him to be Tom Wilson, I want his size in the corners, sure looked like he was willing to throw the body around in the games I saw.

You sign guys to short year contracts to fill the gap like we did with hall. Not do ANOTHER moulson, skinner or Okposo. How many times does it take until we learn our lesson
- Fattony1187

Very wise. I agree. Ottawa sprinkled in useful vets to move the kids along this year. Kids advanced faster than expected and pushed them all out of the lineup. Traded three of the vets at deadline, and got furure picks in return. This is the model. Can’t pay everyone and need steady flow of first contract guys performing at a high level to attain the depth needed to compete.

Everyone focusing on stars lack of success pushing Toronto and Colorado over the hump, when lack of depth is really the problem. Tampa and Vegas are the model. Other teams lack that third and fourth line that is the difference at playoff time. Always been the case. Toronto tried, but brought in too many slow dinosaurs that can’t play at requisite pace anymore.

Well yeah, but Greenway isn't that, but I will take him working the corners and throwing his body around, and saw that this year with the games I was able to watch.

If/when we trade Eichel and Reinhart, we should do everything possible to sign Landeskog, should he hit FA, as it seems all but certain he will.

Will be 29 next season, but he might be the most consistent and defensively responsible Power-Forward of the past decade.

Give him a 6 year deal, bringing him to 35, give him the "C" and do everything possible to sign this man.

- BeadyEyedDouche
I love landeskog, one of my favorite players in the NHL right now. But if we are moving Jack, there is no point bringing in Landeskog at 29, due to the cap he will command.

If we keep Eichel, move reinhart, thats a different story.

Landeskog is nothing like okposo or moulson
- homiedclown

Okposo was most sought after free agent the year the Sabres signed him. How do you know Landeskog is not Okposo of the future?

Moulson was just bad signing, and they did it twice. Showed nothing first go round, so they decided to double down.

Agree with you on both Wilson point and Greenway. But understand he is a laid back kid that needs to be drawn into the battle. Uses massive frame well to be effective, but has no mean streak in him, so no “snarl”. Not in his nature to throw his body around, but smart enough to utilize his body to be very effective down low. Can be a beast at times, when he olays the right way. Love the kid, but don’t expect nasty type player. I think Marcus Foligno made impact on him on the ice, and Bill Guerin off the ice telling him how he needed to play. Has developed into nice player that has value.

Stamkos was not really “available”. Took less to stay in Tampa. Was never leaving.

Not a Wild fan, just a psycho that pays a lot of attention to the league. Don’t need You Tube to look him up. Tage thompson fought one of the toughest guys in the league, and I believe our Sabres young prospect (Cozens) led the team in fights this year. That those two had to answer the bell this year is a disgrace, and tells you all you need to know about that locker room.

Good for Greenway for answering the bell once a year or so, but that is not what he would bring to the team. Noone in the league is afraid of Jordan Greenway. Sounds like I’m dissing him, but am not. Loved his potential all the way back to his time at World Junior tournament a few years back.

Just understand what you are getting. Not a mean guy that is going to intimidate anyone, nut a good player with great size and good skill. If he can consistently play the right way, night in and night out, will take him on my team everyday. Not everybody has to be a killer, and can’t be. But everyone has to be all in when the chips are down. If he is, all is good and you have an effective player.

We are quibbling over nuance. Both like the player. His name has been thrown around in trade the last couple of years. There is a reason for that. Guerin lit the fire under his ass to get him to play the right way and utilize the assets God gave him. They will nit move him if they feel he has turned the corner in that regard. 6’”5 guys with that skill set are not easy to find, and usually take a while to find their footing, so get a little more time and patience to develop.

Buffalo needs guys like that. Can be well worth the wait.

I think everyone knew the term and money was too much. Don't give long term deals to guys in their late 20s that aren't great skaters.

Started watching Euro soccer on espn, dude took heavy slam, one glimpse of his face when they rolled him over and he looked beyond totally knocked out. players huddled around to shield view, it looked like they might have been doing cpr before camera panned back and far away, they would show no more closer looks.
Beyond the first trainer sprinting across the field, the Medical staff kinda take their sweet time realizing something serious was happening, too.
Been working on him on the field for several minutes now.

Edit; I missed when he went down, I thought announcer said “took hard fall”, but I think he may have just collapsed. Game has been suspended/postponed.

He’s staying in Denver. After the expansion draft he will re-sign. Why in hell would you think he would leave a legit contender that he is captain of to go to the poop show in Buffalo?? Talk about delusional.
