Arguments aside, it's nice to see someone beat the Lightning. I'm pulling for the Islanders and Habs to make the final; although I think it's an uphill fight for both.
Tampa's cheating is pretty clever and technically legal but that doesn't make it right. After seeing NJ get nailed on the Kovy contract as a violation of the spirit of the cap, it is infuriating to see the league let teams really game the system. The fact that Florida already has a competitive advantage with their taxes just makes it even more insulting.

Only problem is he is another RD. Not saying he wouldn't instantly be our #1D by a mile, but we need to convince him that we can have a great pairing for the guy, and he is used to the very underrated Slavin. I know they gave him permission to talk with other teams, and that is most likely do to his current asking price. They will see what offers are out there and essentially match it is my guess. Don't be surprised if they eye up a Gardiner buyout or Skjei trade before they actually let him ink with another club. |

Maybe. Hes doing this in hopes of getting an 8 year deal with a new team, and i don't really want any part of that based on where this team is at. He'll be 28 when the deal starts, and that deal will be good for what, maybe 4 years tops? So with the position this team is currently in, we possibly get 1 serious playoff run with him before that deal starts to turn downhill. Imagine he has a Subban-esque decline and we have an albatross of a contract for 4-5 years when this team is ready to actually compete? Hard pass on that.
I think this news takes the Devils out of it, because anything more than 5 years doesnt make sense for us. And he's clearly not taking less than a max year deal. He can help get this team to the playoffs, but we won't be a serious contender in the prime of his deal and when we're ready to truly compete that contract will almost certainly be a big issue.
I love Dougie and wouldnt hate getting him, but i'd much rather go get Vince Dunn instead. Thats the better play here. |

Ok, let's get real here. NO! It was NOT a mistake. I get so sick of all the old Devils fans living in the memories of the mid 90s and acting like TODAY'S Lou was the girl that got away. I appreciate what Lou did for NJ in the past, but he's out of touch with today's game. He did NOTHING for the Leafs and inherited a fantastic team with the Isles. Lou was DRAGGING the Devils through the toilet and into the diarrhea filled sewers. He kept refusing to rebuild and kept signing old, useless, past their prime guys like Ryan "300 concussions" Clowe and hoping guys like Tedenby and Josefson would ever be NHL stars. I'll skip the Kovalchuk and Praise bullcrap since that deserves a book for what a monumental screw up Lou made there.
This Islanders team is NOT Lou's product. These are the Islanders players Lou was gifted: https://www.hockey-refere...e.com/teams/NYI/2018.html Even Sorokin was there before Lou! He's only added Varlamov, Pageau, Palmieri, Zajac and Greene. I love Zajac and Greene, but they are easily replaceable pieces at this point in their careers and therefore insignificant. Varlamov was mediocre for both Washington and Colorado before coming here. Varly is only seeing success now b/c all Trotz's teams elevate their goalies. Once the Isles give Varly the boot in favor of Sorokin, Varly will go right back to being mediocre on another team. Essentially adding Varly, Pageau and Palms to most other teams would not make them a playoff team. The vast majority of what is keeping the Islanders in the playoffs is b/c of what was here BEFORE Lou ever came. The best thing he did for the Isles was hire Trotz, but again, Trotz did NOT come to the Isles specifically for Lou. They are a very promising young up-and-coming team even without who Lou brought in. Lou also lost Tavares to Toronto as well.
While with the Leafs he did nothing noteworthy. I'm sure drafting Marner at 4th overall and Matthews at 1st overall were REALLY hard. And he brought in Mike Babcock, another dinosaur the current NHL game has passed by thankfully, to be locker room poison for that Leafs team.
Lou from 2010 and on is EXTREMELY overrated by boomer Devils fans. I think he was awesome how how the game was played pre-2005, but he is a relic that lucked his way into an amazing situation with the Isles and I'm tired of him getting credit for it like he built them from nothing and NJ is suffering b/c we don't have him anymore. I have been thankful every day since NJ let him go. |

What is wrong about it? Defend Lou's actions from 2010 to present then. If Lou was building a team from scratch it would be a bunch of useless old guys. He kept stacking with pylons like Ryder, Havlat, Clowe, Rolston, Cammalleri, Tallinder, Janssen, Barch, Kostopoulos, Tootoo, Rutuu. Some of these guys had good careers when they were YOUNG, but in terms of when they came to NJ they were all STUPID signings.
I'm not saying Lou was always useless. I'm specifically talking about from 2010 and on. We had a good run in the 2012 playoffs but that was mostly luck. The 2012 team was NOT a super talented team. It's very rare that Stanley Cup winners don't have a lot of serious talent. |

that's fair enough, I didn't mean that old fans are stupid. Maybe some misunderstood that. It is annoying that I keep hearing some fans, almost always old people who were out of high school by the 1995 Cup, complaining about how the Isles are doing so much better than us and it is all b/c of Lou and we could be doing just as good if we still had Lou at the helm. It's delusional thinking. |

Reports are coming out that the Devils have interest in Rasmus Ristolainen.
I'd like to think this team, and Fitz, is smart enough to not give up any worthwhile prospect or pick for him right? RIGHT? I wouldn't give up anything more than a 4th or 5th for him, and even that's pushing it |

I hope we avoid Risto. The only thing I'd like to see NJ bring in is a mentor for Blackwood the way Crawford was supposed to be before he wimped out like bratty little girl. Don't go making big UFA signings or blockbuster trades this year. Let the kids we have grow more and save the cap space when we need to shell out big money for Jack. The Devils are at least 2 years away from being actually competitive. Wait til then to try bringing in stars for playoff pushes. |
