Didn’t stop Vegas from giving pietrangelo 8.8, as well if teams can pawn of some bad contract onto seattle it could go a long way too. With more teams having cap space to work with there will still be a bidding war to bump his price up.

Also for what it’s worth I think without the flat cap some team would offer him 11 million aav so I’m already accounting for a small pay cut.

Like I said I wasn’t a fan of his while he was in Calgary and believe he was overrated myself so I wouldn’t do it.

But I could safely bet a couple teams with cap space will look at a right shot D, ridiculously good numbers the past two years, the analytics guys love him and Norris conversation before injury last year. I could see him sticking with the canes for 8 aav but if he makes it to FA the bidding will start at 9.

Despite losing to Tampa, this is a very good canes team. Staal is their captain, teams arent often salary dumping those players. They'll keep the gang together but may trade niederreiter or gardiner if they need cap space for their pending FAs
