Yeah, they said yes when he asked. He and his agent asked the Hawks for permission.

Well, it wasn't HIS decision. He asked and Hawks OK'd it. Not solely on the player. Team granted it. Team easily could have said "no" but didn't.

Probably, but I bet he wouldn't look as bad if he were on the 3rd pair, instead of playing against the other team's top six.
- mohel

Well that's a whole other conversation.....if he were making much less money and playing lesser minutes thats one thing. However he's paid and touts himself as a top 4 d man.....and while the Hawks defensive issues are not 100% his fault he doesn't help....especially having over 400+ games in the league.

No clue....but when they signed both for a combined 21 million cap hit years ago, they had to know the day would come their deals would push proven support players out of town. Honestly....I really don't care what they think.....Bowman likely has had a talk with both of them and Keith and laid out his time frame, but it doesn't mean his timeline will hit where the team is cup contenders again.

Kane is worth the deal and likely will get another high end deal....not sure on the years but aav wise......

Keith...no clue....could retire, could go play a few years playing 2nd and 3rd pairing minutes on a true cup contender.

Toews....no clue....could go grow plants in 3 years or could stay or could go play for the jets. I just don't see how the Hawks could justify paying him anywhere close to 10.5 again given all the question marks around him.

The cap was supposed to be approaching / exceeding $100 million by now. League and team financial wizards failed to see (primarily) the drop in oil prices, which killed the Looney, as well as other economic impacts (I’d give them a pass for not predicting the pandemic). It would also seem that they didn’t quite understand tha no new TV moneys would be coming in until 2021-22, unlike other sports with multiple network deals and staggered new contracts up for negotiation.

More than the other sports, hockey had a tradition of international tournaments and players wanting to play in them. Teams have usually acquiesced.

The decision was Dach’s - complying with a long hockey tradition.

They should do with Kamf what they did with Kooga except don't give him 3 million per.

Have him take most of the D zone draws, dump the puck and then get a change. For what he costs, that's worth it.

I'm normally not one to get all "attack-y", but what the F are you talking about? HE asked the team for PERMISSION to go play. The team did not in any way PERSUADE him to go. How the heck is that not completely his decision?

Were any other high draft choices who asked to play denied permission by their teams to play?

Chrid Wilkie was re-signed by Rockford. Last seadon he appeared to be a solid two way player with ability to score a descent amount.
.... (therefore)should he forge a third line role I would say he could get up to 25 goals if on a good line and the defensemrn are not for the most part still too green

Theo hopefully can chime in whether he agrees. I am hesitant to say whether Wilkie is better than various other prospects with what they offer on the bottom two lines. Again Theo may chip.in with analysis

Here's what I posted on my Twitter account about the Hogs re-signing Chris Wilkie:

Next to Dylan McLaughlin, Chris Wilkie was deserving of a renewal with the IceHogs and perhaps with the Blackhawks next year.

Wilkie is a key cog at ES, PP, and PK: fundamentally sound, dependable in all zones, quietly puts up points, and willing to take a hit to make a play.

--

Wilkie will be more hard pressed than Dylan McLaughlin to earn an NHL contract AND earn a shot at a cup of coffee with the Hawks. While McLaughlin may have sufficient skill to be an effective 3rd liner, Wilkie may be nothing more than a 13th forward injury recall.

Why bother then? All teams need players like McLaughlin and Wilkie in their system as insurance policies for extensive injuries. They may be a dime a dozen but you still need players like them.

I thought you meant trade him to Vegas for future considerations...

Even if Toews does come back and perform about where he was, there is no way that he re-signs for the same amount (or anywhere close really). If he does, Stan should be fired on the spot. Not for a 35 year old player with past concussion, and whatever the hell happened this year, history.

I am saying on your original post you said HE made that decision....as IN Dach himself......

What I am saying is he asked to go, the Hawks OK'd it, so if you are trying to blame Dach for going and getting hurt OR the team for allowing him to go and he got hurt....I am saying it's a combined decision.

Dach had to get Hawks OK to go play in that tournament.

Agreed.....stagnant cap is going to really squeeze some teams here quickly.

Could’ve fooled me. Seemed like he was on the ice every time the gave up a PPG against.

Yes, it was still the wrong decision to let him play in the tournament. IT ruined a year of his career.

I think most RFA contracts wont get done until after the EXP draft. not knowing how much they want might be a deterent for a player being taken. IE if Kampf has a 3 X 1.2 deal they may want to grab his becuase of cost certaintiy.

Just listened to a podcast about Doug hamilton and they said he wanted $8-$9 he thought. If a team signes him to a 7 year deal in UFA his contract would be done before he turned 35 6/17 is his Bday.

- kmw4631

Let somebody else pay him $8-9.

Now Stan can trade him for the rights to Saad.
edit: I honestly don't think Stan is a Saad guy anymore. There were not a lot of nice things said when he left this time.

If an AHL player is on pace for 25 goals playing third line minutes, you would think said AHL team would move him up to top six. I’m willing to bet that no AHL third line player has scored 25 goals in the last ten years, and I’m not a gambler.

Yeah and I hope all 3 end their careers here (predicated if 2/19 want to resign it will have to be likely less than where they are at now) but if they want to pursue greener pastures and not wait around for the Hawks to be contenders....that's their right as well. That's why they have their NMCs.

Lot of balls up in the air here for bowman....biggest one still is 19.....for those wanting to deal Kubalik just to deal him, like the lynch mob wanted to jettison Debrincat last year, all you'll have left for a top 6 F line....is 88-77-12....Without 8-19, who else can play 6 minutes and produce consistently?

I didn't say deal Kubalik just to deal him, I said if the Kings would include Mikey Anderson in a package for him, I am all ears.

I didn't see the trade proposals, but contrary to the "book" on older Nylander being soft, he was the only one of the "core" on the Leafs that competed..
