Look at tampa, Washington, Islanders, Boston. They were all playoff teams when they traded 1st round picks for coleman, goodrow, mantha, pageau, palmeiri, and hall (albeit two 2nds).

We are close, the core is there, the roster is getting better, don't mortgage our future just to get this team to make the playoffs.

We also didn't have a 1st or 2nd rounder last year, we can't continue to trade high picks just to cross the playoff line, which I'm not convinced dumba would even do if we acquired him.

Say rathbone podkolzin juolevi hoglander and lockwood all make the team next year.

Very very quickly, the cupboard starts to look thin as these prospects start to make their first impacts on the team. (Like vintsy said above)

I just don't think the canucks can afford to mortgage the future after just placing 24th overall in the league with much of the team coming back next year.

My point was. So much was made yesterday about pettersson missing the amount of games he did being a main contributor to the way the season went. Kucherov and price missed more games than petey did. Many teams have their best players go down for significant periods of time and still make it, it's what separates the good teams from the bad teams.
