The price will be steep for Reinhart, I wouldn't trade a first. It would have to be a fair deal or let another team overpay. I did hear however he wants to come back to the west coast.
- VanHockeyGuy

I would give up our first this year. Not the best draft, plus Sam is in the right age range and already a first line player. I'd go:

9OA, DiPietro, Rous/Beagle (cap reasons)

Next year's draft I'd trade JTM to recoup a 1st and prospects in a deeper draft.

I think we need to look at world where OJ and Rathbone are in the lineup full time. Hopefully Hughes or Clarke fall and we can really get going. And Edler is gone.

Look from within but we do need another sizeable Dman preferably a RHD.

- LordHumungous

Quite obvious yes. Compliment what we have not more LHD

I mean I want them to play too but...

Hughes Myers
OJ Schmidt
Rathbone Hamonic

That's what you wanna go with?

- Brooks_Light

Why not or...

Why not bring Gillis back?

Pretty much how I'm feeling. Glad they brought in new voices, and Shaw seems like a smart dude. Hopefully it transitions to the team well and we actually see some on-ice results, and Baum sort of gets relegated to implementing the new system. Very happy Clark is back
- NewYorkNuck

Best part of that is that it shows how full of sh*t Don is.

i had the same thought.

in my opinion, jb told him that changes had to be made. he wanted a strong assistant coach and probably gave him a couple names.

tg agrees and in exchange he gets to bring in one of his own guys. so both guys get what they want.

at the end of the day, the coaching staff is much stronger than it was two days ago. but just like 99% of people in here, i'd like baumer to have been replaced.

- RealityChecker

Baumer could be a mid season casualty if no improvement.

I'm more worried about JB making trades. We actually have all out picks this year (so far).

Wouldn't want Eichel (not at that trade price/cap hit), but yes to Reinhart. Could either roll three lines, or load up the top 6. Plus, I think if you trade for him now, that lessens the blow of trading JTM in the next year
- NewYorkNuck

I rather sign Hyman UFA. Lose no assets & be cheaper & a very good top 6 3rd wheel on either wing.

Ya, but he's 29 and not going to be super cheap, especially coming off a career year (percentage wise)

Yup.
I hope Benning does nothing in the 1st week of free agency.

I am good with that, the problem is,he has already said he will be doing some things. He will want someone for the 3rd line that can help score and at least 1 defenseman.
We shall see what happens over the next 6 weeks.

He entered the league at 23, and we might have someone like Gadjovich who is 22, that can do the same things, we don't know.
You want to see the young shiny defensemen given a shot, but not the winger prospects.

The team will realistically be ready to compete in what, 2-3 years? Hyman in 2-3 years will *more than likely* not be as productive as he is now, and be on a contract that pays him more than he's producing/impacting. Having him tie up money in those years when it could be better spent on UFAs that will be that 28/29 age range that can augment the lineup is, in my opinion, a better long-term plan.

Did you know, if minivan was doing the scouting for this team, they would have cups galore by now

Hopefully, his self-inflicted cap constraints will prevent him from adding more burdensome contracts. He did promise to be aggressive in free agency & trading, one can only hope he is lying again.

Good thing the team didn't sign Toffoli then since he's a few months older than Hyman is.

For the long-term outlook, probably*. However, Toff is a better player than Hyman, so the regression wouldn't be as low.

*though that doesn't factor in the assets given up to get Toffoli

Yes actually it is a good thing, now I get to watch Montreal beat Vegas on their way to the SC.
