Drafting, of course, is massively important. Not knocking that at all. Drafting, signing, trades are the three cornerstones – can't really just have one doing the heavy lifting. And in JB's case, it's mainly drafting.

JB has had his wins in signings and trades for sure. I think the thing most people who rag on him hate is his decision making/planning that constantly undercuts the process/timeline. He is his own worst enemy... he's dug himself into a hole and is being handed more shovels to dig himself out of it.

I could say *yawn* already been said, you need some new material Yorkers, but I won’t.

If you can get over 50% of what the team needs from the draft. That leaves less than 25% for trading and less than 25% for signings.

He should really be able to get half the team over a 7 year period from drafting, if he is good.

Thanks

I will ask, though, since the end of the season and the thousands of posts that have been made, how much/what new material has anyone brought to the boards?

An arena full of pissed off fans will be far more effective. Makita's always looking for the easy fix.
- Marwood

It certainly got FA's attention when they yelled "Fire Gillis"

The Canucks brand is damaged, hence the inexperienced twins coming on board TL2.0

This is the time of year the club needs to sell seats, I'd surmise that's not going too well right now.

What will it take to overcome the apathy? A big UFA signing or trade might help short term, but at the end of the day it's a results based business in a fickle high pressure market.

I said soon ready. I agree they need more time but they look like they can play a NHL game.

I wonder if JB is going to take a swing for the fences just because I personally think he is at the end of the rope in public opinion .

Free Agency I would keep very simple this year. Hamonic Graovac Tinordi and Sutter all under 1.5 and no longer than two years.

I doubt you could even do that.

One could also say that with all the bullpoop going on in the world, why would you get pissed off about some guys spending their own money and having a laugh? Much more happening in the world to be angry about

- NewYorkNuck

I understand being angry, but that has to be the biggest waste of money I can think of. It accomplished nothing except for media hits. If it was done for a laugh, well it certainly wasn't funny imo, it was so dumb, and I support the inspired message of Benning getting fired.

Do what? Sign four free agents less than 1.5 mil?

Yup, like I said, I'm not disagreeing with you. You've posted your hypothetical rebuild situation before, and I think we are all generally in agreement in what a logical/thought out one looks like, and where a team should be after 7 years.

One. We have one. One out of thousands or posts. Lol.

I'll wait for Lordy to come and do the math for us all so we know how much it is in terms of percentage

McTavish it is
- Nighthawk

I was reading an article on him yesterday from the hockey writers.

Much like Quinton Byfield, McTavish has the size and the skill that NHL teams are looking for. Despite his size, he isn’t quite ready physically to jump right into the NHL next season, something that is pretty easy to tell when you watch him play against the second-tier talent in the Swiss League.

Defensively, McTavish seems to struggle at times and has a bit of a tendency to float around. He could also stand to benefit from putting just a little bit more effort into the backcheck sometimes, but this is something that I find comes and goes.

NHL Potential

Seeing how far McTavish has fallen on some draft boards, he’s my pick for being the steal of the draft. That kind of player you ask yourself how he went that late when you look back at it in the next five to 10 years. He needs to grow into his frame and, as he develops, will become more physical. Pairing that size, speed, and skill together will make for a dangerous hockey play and there is no telling just how good he can get. McTavish should be able to at least become a serviceable NHL forward who can be leaned on offensively.

Here is the article.

I like to read as many reviews as possible. This one has a bit of a different take than a lot of other ones I have read on him.

Yeah. I don’t think two of those guys would sign for $1.5 for 2 or fewer years. I’m not sure who Tinordi is.

Yeah, now he just needs to not trade them to try and expedite things.

This club would have been so much better with mccann and forsling.

- Codes1087

Maybe. It's easy to pull the shoulda, woulda, coulda card now after this season. Plus folks crying about Stecher (lol) Tanev and Marky. But not much whining on Leivo yet which is odd. When he has success I guess we'll hear it lol. Toffoli is a good target now for the anti-Benning crowd. All easy pickings.

Bottom line is he has drafted very well and needs to round it out. If he needs help doing it so be it. and again, Green isn't the problem. He has shown if he is given the right ingredients like last years PO's he can provide results. 2 years away...

I get it, but how much did it cost? A grand? I can think of much much larger wastes of money than that.

Yes I’ve read it. Scoured nearly everything on prospects in our range. There is nothing new or anything more to come most likely.

And last year was disappointing as whatever "(frank)" is.

I started watching "Ted Lasso" on Apple TV yesterday. Great show. Binged 5 episodes.

Tinordi was an old Gillis favorite. He is Boston's 6/7 guy . Big kid can fight. He just had a good tilt with Matt Martin two games ago. They used him on the PP during the season so he does have that. It would be less than a mil to sign him.

Ontario Hockey League is supposed to have a thing they are going to do for prospects who didn't get to play this year. I doubt it changes much except for later round picks.

I tried this morning by bringing up Avs and Islanders, twice.

It’s up to you guys to bring up new material, there was the IIHL hockey, there are playoffs, there are Carols blogs that everyone seems to thank her for and then never discuss her material. I haven’t seen Carol constantly moaning about Benning, in fact I love how she can continuously put out a blog every other day and never seems to whine about Benning or Green.

I should acknowledge there were some comments about Luongo and Burrows back in Canuck colours. Point is there are numerous subjects to discuss.

Ah.

The average salary for an NHL D is >$2.5m. I think Hamonic is a $3.5-$4.0m quality guy. He could sign for less because he wants to be there, but he’s basically a feistier, less defensive Tanev with a better shot.

Sutter, I guess, he’s a maybe. But as a player, watching the team commit $12m over four years to Beagle, would you sign a deal for half the $ and half the term as a guy you are clearly better than?

I’m sure there will be some bargains out there. Guys who are desperate to prove they belong in the NHL, but don’t expect great players to sign bargain deals here. Maybe in a few years when they are actually a team with a shot you can get the Joe Thornton forb$700k type deals.
