to me a contender is a team that, at the begining of the regular season, you establish as a cup favorite. a contender. TB, COL, Vegas.. to me these are contenders.
teams who have a good playoffs run and surprise, like the Habs this year (if they win round 3), are not contenders.
like STL when they won their cup.

Seems the Canadiens just played the same way they were playing at the beginning of the season, where they were dominant.

As for Dom Ducharme, some players said that they all met with the coach who gave them a specific role to play. Also heard a story about Ducharme asking the players (before game 5 against Toronto) what was the last time they could do something exceptional and veterans replied (Staal, Perry, Weber). I guess that worked!
