I really don’t look into much “shenanigans” the media talks about.

Ottawa went for a face plant and it took years to figure out Hoffman’s GF was causing a problem...which at the time was one of the last guys we thought was causing issues.

I like to leave the character stuff up to the GMs, think they have a bit more info on that.

Or the prospects everyone is willing to bet on.

Ottawa went for a face plant and it took years to figure out Hoffman’s GF was causing a problem...which at the time was one of the last guys we thought was causing issues.

While I agree. I highly doubt "Mr. Virtuous" will ever trade for a guy who has about 7 sexual assault litigations and payoffs to his record.

Not a knock or even a critique, just seems to be Dubas' style from his history and comments.

Jack Eichel isn't quite analogous to AM34.

He's not the goalscoring machine that Matthews is but he is fast and a skilled playmaker that can score 35-40 goals.

Having said that, he desperately wants to win and is (frank)ing tired of the dumpster fire that is Buffalo. Something tells me his attitude would be a helluva lot different on a franchise that is committed to winning and is a first class organization in every possible way (well, except for the playoffs, I guess).

I would trade Marner for Eichel in a heartbeat.

I think you are being a little unfair and judgmental over a situation you don’t know and is most certainly overblown by media like usual.

"It's still hockey" is pretty goddamn reductive though, isn't it? I mean, sure, it's still the same game mechanically (stick, puck, ice, etc.) but that doesn't mean it's played the same way or reffed/managed the same way. Far from it.

Foligno was acquired to help the Leafs play truculent playoff-style hockey. Instead, he got promoted to a role he wasn't brought in for after Snake was murdered and he suffered a back(?) injury that rendered him ineffective.

Low event and conservative hockey is not a Leaf strength. But hey, why not run the experiment again next year, amirite/amirov? 🤷

Also, Rielly is gone in a year anyway but if Seth Jones is acquired (don't worry, he won't be) it would only be if he was willing to extend with the Leafs.

If we don’t make the changes you suggest, we run the same experiment next year? They need to play differently than they did in these playoffs. That’s pretty obvious.

One of the things that worked for the top line in the regular season that they got away from was the forecheck. To be successful in the playoffs they need to do poop like that. It’s playoff hockey but it’s still hockey that they’ve shown themselves capable of playing.

It’s harder in the playoffs. Maybe that’s the problem for Mitch. Shanny and gang need to figure that out. Maybe as some suggest, they can get two bangers for the cost of him. I still think you need playmakers but maybe they find a power forward hybrid type.

That’s a mistake. Look at the Canucks and Virtanen. Jim Benning kept JV over Toffoli and will now probably void Jake’s contract. You’d think that Canuck management would have some sort of clue on the character of the player they are drafting.

If Ottawa re-signed UFA Zdeno Chara instead of UFA Wade Redden they likely would've won the Cup in 06-07.

We'll never know. Red Wings losing Mathieu Schneider in the second round for the rest of the playoffs hurt Detroit. Marleau accidentally ran into him. His minutes went to Lilja. He wasn't a top 4 defenseman but he was forced to play top 4 in the WCF. Chara would've made a huge difference for Ottawa. He was much better than Wade Redden. Bad take by you.
