i wouldnt make a deal just to get him out...only if they got a good return. hockey trade of value for a 90pt regular season dipseydoodledangle - senstroll
Seems silly to me...We will be looking for another Marner once he is gone.
And the Leafs lose in the 1st round next year what's next? Trading Matthews?
You can shake up the Rielly's and Hyman's first before you give up on star players.

I watched that game last night, the fans in the stands going ape poop over a Bruin being legally knocked off the puck in the 3rd period was hilarious.
I'm starting to think the years of the Bruins getting preferential treatment from the officials in the playoffs has made some in that fan base not know what is an actual penalty anymore.
Plus the big, bad cross checking machine with a get out of jail free card got traded to Washington so apparently he took his officiating good will with him. - Cush29

oh still move Rielly also
sign hyman if the numbers work or find another hyman. idc
Marners game is easily stopped by a team with a reasonable checking line.
he is supposed to be the playmaker and one that drives the line I was told..but he doesnt.

I am going to say this and then hang up and listen, I don't want Jack Eichel as a Leaf if it comes at the expense of trading Mitch Marner.
Who needs Matthews Lite when you have an actual Auston Matthews?
If Marner was gone I wouldn't want to turn around and dump that money into JE who is very talented but hasn't proven he can do much of anything other than be sour, angry and fight with management. Do the Leafs really need that?

There will be a lot of player movement no doubt;
We are going to potentially lose a lot of players this off-season
Thornton
Andersen
Hyman
Foligno(I hope we re-sign him)
Bogosian(I hope we re-sign him)
Rittich
Simmonds
Nash
Galchenyuk(I hope we re-sign him)

I'd rather keep Marner and see how it plays out.
Just my opinion. - Cush29
should get more than just one piece for him..
Maybe Marner, Mikheyev and Reilly for Jones, Laine and Jenner

AM - JE top 2 Centers
JT shifts to wing
Eichel has not had a chance to show he can choke it up in the playoffs like Mitch

If Marner goes I want him replaced with a lower (8 ish) cap hit player who is acquired through free agency.
I am still holding out hope that Colorado will somehow piss off Landeskog and he will become available. At which point Mitch can (frank) off for the best prospect/pick return we can get so that we can afford Landeskog.

Oh no doubt, they're on a helluva run, but... those kinds of "built for the playoff" teams like the Islanders, Habs, Blues a couple years ago... it's unsustainable over 82-games plus the playoffs.
Sometimes you just need firepower to get you over the hump when you're not playing particularly well, and those types of teams are always on the cusp of not even qualifying for the playoffs every year.

The 94-95 Devils swept Detroit in the SCF and then missed the playoffs the next season.
So the Florida Panthers...the team I just described is the Florida Panthers. - Santo_44
If the leafs lost in 6 games to the Tampa Bay lightning, while missing one of their top players, I don't think you would have many people complaining.
The leafs lost to a team that even the most die hard Habs fans would admit is probably missing the playoffs if they were playing in their regular division. Then add to the fact they were up 3-1.

Dont have $40m tied up in 4 forwards.
Just some quick notes from watching other playoff series - Fakepartofme
At the risk of repeating myself, I haven't watched much hockey since the Leafs were eliminated but from the little I've seen, BOS v NYI and COL v VGK has educated me enough to know that the Leafs would likely have been eviscerated by those clubs.
Which is to say, I agree with everything you just said.
