Yet Bruce Cassidy has the AUDACITY to whine about the refs. - Scabeh
I watched that game last night, the fans in the stands going ape poop over a Bruin being legally knocked off the puck in the 3rd period was hilarious.
I'm starting to think the years of the Bruins getting preferential treatment from the officials in the playoffs has made some in that fan base not know what is an actual penalty anymore.
Plus the big, bad cross checking machine with a get out of jail free card got traded to Washington so apparently he took his officiating good will with him. |

You're totally correct. I should have referred to the Core 4 as mammoth in totality.
Nylander has one of the best value contracts in the league which I think the Leafs would be insane to trade at this point. Is he a super attractive (double-entendre intended) player for other teams? Yup. But he has precisely the type of contract the Leafs need more of. - mjones242
Actually no he doesnt have one the best value contracts in the league.
He's good offensively and a 6.9 cap hit is about where he should be.
Defensively and away from the puck....meh, not the greatest.
Pasta, Bergeron, Marchand, Mckinnon, Huberdeau, Scheifele, Barkov, Drysaddle all have one the best value contracts in the league.
willie is not in this category.

Then an hour later Ritchie gets a $5,000 fine for his cheap elbow
- Isles
Should have been more than a $5K fine in my opinion but it was deserved for sure, hard to argue anything other than intent to injure there & if the league really means what they say about removing dangerous head shots.....oh wait never mind they only mean it sometimes, not all the time and you find out when they mean it when they decide to tell you & you will take it and like it. |

that "whine" by Cassidy gave me about a 2 minute solid "chuckle" and "head shake"...
talk about tone-deaf or complete lack of self awareness.
you'd almost get the idea that Cassidy has been watching/listening to Jack Edwards.... but seriously, its a case of the Bruins haven become so accustomed to preferential treatment, or getting the benefit of the doubt for so long... that they simply can't grasp when things don't go completely in their favor.
I found the thing about Bergeron in the face off circle particularly entertaining.

im fine giving it another go as is, the same core 4.
but im not confident they win a round.
this was the lay up easy route for them.. if they were ever going to slay the dragon.
up 3-1...this was it.
iv lost all confidence in this team as it is.
waste another year..thats fine - senstroll
I like to bet on talent.
Success isn’t linear, I don’t want to make this team worse because peoples feelings are hurt.
Unless Echiel is coming back for Marner then Marner is coming back.

It's an interesting point. Why are the Bruins and Tampa ahead of the Leafs both in terms of regular season AND post-season success at this point?
What do the Leafs lack that those teams do not? - mjones242
Their top players actually perform in the playoffs. They have better goaltending and defense. But seriously take a look at their top players through 10 games, and then look at the leafs through 7 games. You aren't winning playoff series when your top line plays 23+ minutes a game, and all 3 guys combine for 2 goals.
As far a regular seasons success. I believe that Tampa and Boston are just better overall teams. Boston is starting to age out, but then Florida is improving, so the leafs might jump Boston, but Florida might leap frog both.

How confident are you they make the playoffs next year, if they are back to the regular eastern conference? I'm not convinced they would finish ahead of Tampa, Boston or Florida. - r8edr

Imagine if the league actually put salary cap rules in place that addressed things like state/provincial tax as part of a salary equation? You have to wonder how much things might change - maybe not at all but maybe, just maybe...... players might not look at going to Edmonton or Winnipeg or Calgary as negatively and even look past the insanity that is the media in Toronto and Montreal or the pressures of playing in any Canadian market (ya ok Vancouver too I guess?). Then some of the Canadian teams may actually be able to land some players that they just haven't been able to in the past.
Look at poor Edmonton when they try to sign big name UFA's.
Hi Player X we will offer you X more years at X more $.
Flordia team swoops in we will offer you a few less years at less $ but your take home pay is the same or better than what Edmonton offered plus you get to live in FLA & deal with being the 4th (at best) most popular sport with very little press coverage.
Hard choice for players I'm sure. |
