The Leafs have gone all-in on building a core of four they feel they can rotate complementary/supporting players around.

Unfortunately, those four players make up half of the team's salary cap with no raise in the cap in sight (which, to be fair, isn't entirely their fault). Doubly unfortunate: those players don't appear to know how to adjust to playoff hockey or, to be charitable, don't know how to turn it on all at the same time.

One can only surmise that Dubas is not willing to deviate from the Core 4 philosophy. If he decided to break with the philosophy that would be a tectonic shift that would cast doubt on his decision making up to this point. He has to tread carefully into the next season and try to make some big moves that won't affect those four.

I'm afraid it ain't going to work. I suspect he knows the writing is on the wall. Tough place to be in.

Agreed with the above.
we could be screwed.

Tyler Biggly. Burkey will trade for him. He won't score any goals and will end up playing in Florida awaiting prison. Oh wait never mind.

I feel like they shouldn't try and take shortcuts towards a rebuild.

Keep your good young players, especially those cost controlled like Chycrhun, trade the vets, stop trading your first rounders for the Taylor Halls or Phil Kessel of this world and do it properly this time.

Chayka made way too many mistakes, but there are some interesting building pieces in Arizona that they should hold on to imo.

- Scabeh

They are in a horrible position...They have no prospect pool and no picks. The only player worth something that would be smart to trade is OEL and he has vetoed that.

They don't have much of anything in terms of value. No team needs to trade anyone but they are just a team where you can have anyone if you give them a good package of prospects and picks.

They are very far away from contending. They could Anaheim Ducks it up and go no where for a few years but still stay out of the basement but don't think Chayaka is that type of GM.

Hoping the Bruins rally and beat the Isles. The Isles fanbase is beyond irritating.
- mjones242

Both fanbases are annoying and suck.
I dont want to see the bruins in the final, so Id rather see them eliminated and the isles move on and then get eliminated.
Plus it would really piss off all the Isles haters who said this team was going to return to crap the past several years. So that's fun.

Right it’s Armstrong.

So how is he making his stamp? He tried desperately with OEL last year.

It's too early to tell IMO. Kind of tough to build a team when you have no first round draft picks. They still have some good players on that roster. It'll be interesting to see if he can make some good trades.

I don't think he's done trying to find the right fit with OEL. It didn't work last year but he's bound to keep trying.

I could see him dealing Kessel to another team as a rental, sounds like a good start to get maybe a 1st rounder?

Keller, OEL, Chychrun, Garland are the only players I see worth anything valuable.

OEL isn't going anywhere. Does Keller get sold low? Certainly wouldn't get even close to full value especially with his 7m cap hit.

So he has Chychrun and Garland to work with. Throw in Kuemper with what he could get with a good goalie with a year remaining.

I am pretty sure Kessel has a NMC this year...He is a bit of a wild card with allowing a trade.

The Cap strategy is to plug a young guy in even though it might leave you thin ..so Sandin gets 50 games. Assuming you need an improvement heading into the playoffs you grab a rental at the TD.

So you've opened up 5M in cap space for the year to allow yourself to get better elsewhere (re-sign Hyman, a 'tender, whatever) and you've given Sandin a nice look to see what he's got ..BUT, the trade off is that'll it'll probably cost you some picks at the TD to grab another D.

- The Law

I think this is the way to go, but honestly this team isn’t even guaranteed a playoff spot next year if its going back to the old divisions.

Even ottawa should be a lot better.

This team is in a big pickle.

So a 2nd rounder and a prospect like Hall?

Either way, he's getting traded.

just like Arizona, we don't have a 1st rd pick this year.

hopefully, we could get Chychrun, Keumper and Crouse for Rielly, Liljegren, Mikheyev and Joseph Woll. Just so Max can cheer for the Coyotes

Don’t want to trade to many of matthews friends to Arizona.

I'd trade Kuemper while his value is high. If it's high that is. Garland will get paid one way or the other. Keller isn't worth 7 mil. They'd have to retain 2 mil.

He has been so reluctant to trade Keumper for some reason...

But yeah they aren’t in a great spot..not much value to be had if they made Chychrun untouchable.

I hope Leafs management is taking a good look at Montreal.

Montreal has managed to put together a nice roster while rebuilding the past few years.

Chychrun, after the season he just had, is most likely their only untouchable guy.

- Scabeh

Marner would look real good in Coyotes colours.
