About CJ having a player in mind...Could it be Chychrun? A team doesn't trade a guy like that away but Arizona is in a position to trade any player away for picks and prospects. Would cost a boat load. - Santo_44
just like Arizona, we don't have a 1st rd pick this year.
hopefully, we could get Chychrun, Keumper and Crouse for Rielly, Liljegren, Mikheyev and Joseph Woll. Just so Max can cheer for the Coyotes |

It's amazing how watching your team, which was predicted to go deep, get eliminated can sour your desire to watch any other hockey for the remainder of the post-season. - mjones242

Chychrun, after the season he just had, is most likely their only untouchable guy. |

I don't know why Leafs fans would be cheering for a team that is managed by Lou and whose fanbase love to rub it in Leafs fans faces that we overpaid for Snakevares and how unnecessary he was for their clubs success.
GO BRUINS! - mjones242
Um, we are not cheering for the Islanders, we're cheering for Boston to lose. |

They have next years 1st.
Trades like that don't happen. It would be Chychrun plus throw in players for a huge package. They'd want one of the top 3 prospects plus Liljegren. Then next years 1st with some pot sweetners added.

I don't think anyone on Arizona is untouchable.
All of them could be had imo...they desperately need picks and prospects.
And ownerships wants them to cut salary but nobody wants what they are offering.
They are going to have to deal Keller or Chyrchrun to kick start a rebuild and shed serious money. |

Yeah probably, but the real treat would be Woll on Arizona.. That would mean Max would post on the Coyotes thread..
So, I hope it happens |

Trading Robertson when we are in a cap crunch is just plain dumb. He is the one prospect we have on an ELC that might have the chance to play in our top 6 in the next couple of years. |

And to think Kenny Holland could've drafted Chychrun (who fell in the draft rankings because he had mono previously) but instead drafted Cholowski. All to get rid of the Datsyuk zombie contract. Chayka and Holland swapped first round picks. I just shake my head. ☹️ |

Even IF ownership wants them to cut salary (because I honestly have no idea if they do).
There are plenty of other guys to trade/get rid of before you trade Chychrun.
He's 23 years old. They are gonna build around him, not use him for picks so they might be as good as him one day.
They don't have to trade him. At all.

He was a big dropper in his draft year.
Went from sure thing top 5 pick to what? 15?
Crazy.
But these weird drops and rise happen every year. |

It would really, really suck to hold onto Rielly only to let him walk into UFA.
Having said that, how do you replace him with a cheaper option this year? - mjones242
The Cap strategy is to plug a young guy in even though it might leave you thin ..so Sandin gets 50 games. Assuming you need an improvement heading into the playoffs you grab a rental at the TD.
So you've opened up 5M in cap space for the year to allow yourself to get better elsewhere (re-sign Hyman, a 'tender, whatever) and you've given Sandin a nice look to see what he's got ..BUT, the trade off is that'll it'll probably cost you some picks at the TD to grab another D. |

Some Leafs have their heads buried so far up Dubas' ass they can't see.
Happens far too much around these parts.
Despite what Dubas and Shanny said at their press conferences, I think either Marner or Nylander will be moved this summer.
Both Dubas and Shanny are staring down the barrel of the gun now. - fifty__missions

They don't have to trade anyone.
But they are in a position where they need a re-tool minimum. Nobody wants Dvorak. OEL held the team hostage and is staying for good.
Garland is a guy they likely move to maybe get a 1st back.
Then what? Do they sell low on Keller? I think Chychrun could be had and that's what I am saying here. Absolutely nobody is untouchable on Arizona imo. |

Chychrun went #16. Cholowski went #20. Holland did pick up an extra 2nd round pick in the trade where he drafted Hronek. But still... Chychrun would've been nice. |

I would give both Sandin and Liljegren 50+ games and then make a decision from there to maybe bring in an experienced low-price D-Man at the TDL.
No need to swing for the fences at the deadline, just bring in pieces to compliment the team |

I feel like they shouldn't try and take shortcuts towards a rebuild.
Keep your good young players, especially those cost controlled like Chycrhun, trade the vets, stop trading your first rounders for the Taylor Halls or Phil Kessel of this world and do it properly this time.
Chayka made way too many mistakes, but there are some interesting building pieces in Arizona that they should hold on to imo.

Yes. But maybe more because he's also been injured all the time added to just not being impressive when healthy. |

So the Leafs might have a sleeper among them |

They might. Leafs need to give Liljegren a chance to prove himself in the NHL. I don't know what more he can prove in the AHL. |
