think higher.. There was some speculation that he turned down $5M per from the Leafs.. - PatC80
Nah, there's a deal in place. Just can't sign him till after the expansion draft. |

who the (frank) are we kidding, if they sign hyman he will score 35 goals and they will go to the cup finals. - senstroll
He could score 25 goals and Leaf fans would be screaming fire Dubas
I like Hyman but he is not worth a long term deal...He is likely worth 5M next year but after that it could get ugly. |

Hyman will get paid, he has that player you win with in the playoffs shine...even though you never win with him in the playoffs |

Oh crap.. Leafs need to re-sign Hyman now.. Can't be a Bruin.. I don't want to have to hate Hyman.. - PatC80
It's pretty crazy that the Bruins are on the brink of elimination. Having said that, damn that's a fine team.
I know we're supposed to hate the Bruins (I actually don't) but I love how that team is constructed. |

Maybe, but I do think he will get a deal similar to what Josh Anderson got and you know I don't like that deal. - PatC80
I feel you. 2 years too long most likely.
If Hyman is seen as a vital need for your team though.... sometimes you gotta pay up. |

I'd like the Leafs to trade for a better player than Hyman for the same cap hit
Hyman is a signing Leafs will regret in 2-3 years. |

I think he has to die on that hill.
Definitely agree that Hyman likely walks (too expensive) and Andersen is not brought back unless he takes an unbelievable pay cut.
Rielly I think is the odd man out and a likely trade candidate. I just don't think the Leafs have faith that he's the stud #1 that he was trending towards a couple of seasons ago.
Is a trade for Seth Jones worth exploring? Is he a significant enough upgrade on Rielly? I'd like to think so but the fancy stats controversy looms... - mjones242
I would like to have Seth Jones on this Leafs team..
Muzzin-Jones
Sandin-Brodie
Dermott-Holl/Liljegren
I can't see Dubas just hoping to sign guys to league minimum deals again.
If Hyman does leave as a UFA, then that creates a hole at LW, but I have to believe Dubas and Pridham already know what's gonna happen with Hyman.

I thought about Jones and I think he is as good as Rielly but is more unlikely to re sign...might be a backwards move. |

Could be, but.. Where is the cap space coming from?
Leafs have roughly $16M to spend on 10 players.. Can't have 7 guys on league minimum deals and expect a different result. |

That's my fear also. I think he would want to test out the UFA market and I'm not sure if he would want to be under the bright lights of TO.
Then again, who knows?
I think it's safe to say that the only way Dubas would explore Seth Jones would be if he was guaranteed to sign here. |

the fact that we need to overpay someone like Hyman reflects poorly on the rest of our forward group..
If he is 'vital' then one of the big 4 has to go. |

Yeah and if I am Seth Jones I am not doing that.
Things could really speed up with the cap if the pandemic clears up faster than expected...if that's the case Jones would be lined up for a huge pay day.
Stupid to sign for any high end player right now imo. |

Gibson, Price and Vasilevsky are the three best goalies in NHL currently.
No need to try and pitch Gibson as a subpar goalie -- of course you have barely seen him play based on your comments (and reference to 'stats'). - MaximusAurelius

I don't know why Leafs fans would be cheering for a team that is managed by Lou and whose fanbase love to rub it in Leafs fans faces that we overpaid for Snakevares and how unnecessary he was for their clubs success.

About CJ having a player in mind...Could it be Chychrun? A team doesn't trade a guy like that away but Arizona is in a position to trade any player away for picks and prospects. Would cost a boat load. |

Agreed, trade knowing that a contract extension can be worked out..
Jones is different than Rielly. On the PP alone, a threat to shoot will be helpful.. |

It would really, really suck to hold onto Rielly only to let him walk into UFA.
Having said that, how do you replace him with a cheaper option this year? |

Foligno had a back injury. Dude shouldn't even have been playing at all after it.
Regardless of what you think of the trade the Leafs didn't get Foligno from that trade. So I find it hard to evaluate that trade.
In hindsight you trade for Hall...but I liked the move at the time. |

There are options out there. |
