It would be the easiest way to manufacture cap space without moving one of the big 4.
The easiest way would be to trade #16, but I don't see that happening - PatC80
I think they buy a nice young winger for the top 6. Amirov/Robertson plus a 1st.
Then use Rielly to recoup some assets and hopefully sign a cheaper D. Maybe Gologoski. |

If Dubas is willing to die on that hill, and it continually fails (another 1st rd exit next year) then yeah, I think he'll be let go...
With that said, I could see Dubas moving someone like Rielly and letting Hyman and Andersen walk - PatC80
YES! Hyman is a guy I with the Bruins would target in the off-season.

I for one am sick of this team letting assets walk, what a different team they could have been if they got assets for JVR and Bozak |

MTL is proving you don't trade away assets when you are competitive. Everyone has a shot who gets in.
I mean plenty of teams have proved that but they are most recent. |

But that would be the smart move, Dubas has to buck up or he'll be the one gone. |

Trading Marner is the best option, I just can't see it happening. Maybe they do re-visit it later, in a year or two. I could see Rielly being moved, he's been here the longest and will be too expensive to re-sign.

The market is much rougher than in "normal" years though.
He might be hoping for more than 5, but I don't see him getting much more than that.
Perhaps term will be the deciding factor.

If that is what it takes he will be a Leaf.
Unfortunately some dumb team will give him 5.5-6M. |

I think he has to die on that hill.
Definitely agree that Hyman likely walks (too expensive) and Andersen is not brought back unless he takes an unbelievable pay cut.
Rielly I think is the odd man out and a likely trade candidate. I just don't think the Leafs have faith that he's the stud #1 that he was trending towards a couple of seasons ago.
Is a trade for Seth Jones worth exploring? Is he a significant enough upgrade on Rielly? I'd like to think so but the fancy stats controversy looms... |

Maybe, but I do think he will get a deal similar to what Josh Anderson got and you know I don't like that deal. |

We'll see. Who knows about these "speculations" - I have a feeling Leafs were not tendering any offers yet, but I'm not "in the know".
Bruins are too cheap to go to 6 (and rightly so in this case). It's his last chance for a decent contract so he'll try to get as much as possible somewhere.
