Why would Sid deviate from his 8.7?
- 10inchTerror

Not saying that he would, but the point is, The if Malkin asks for 10 million per on an extension I think Ownership, Management would consider, and fans would be understanding if we let him walk...

If Sid asked for 10 million per, you'd bet he was going to get it, no questions asked

Fan's frustrations with Malkin isn't Xenophobia, It's just that he is wearing down and constantly missing games, especially at the end of the season/playoffs

I just read RW's blog to see if people were overstating RW's "Penguins fans are xenophobic" statement... and wow, what a tool.

Ryan Wilson is the epitome of a progressive on the internet. Constantly looking down on people, acting with a level of smugness and ignorance, and accusing people of things without any evidence. I saw it happen to a lot of people on college campuses and the common response to them was, "They are young, they will grow out of it." Fast forward 5 years later and they are still acting the same.

1) Adjust your expectations of 4th line players.

2) He's had 47 in 79 and 41 in 60. Both are right in that range so not a stretch.

3) 25 and 50 is not a career year for a guy who had 33 and 64. It's just roughly what he did 3 of the past 5 years. Not a stretch.

- Tojo.

Not my expectations of fourth line production. This is the goal of the Sullivan plan, that many on here agree with, including our writer. I'm perfectly happy with Ryan Reaves scoring four goals.

In the Sullivan plan, Zucker is playing with Malkin, Jake with Sid and so forth. No need to make adjustments, just play. Zucker is the more like Kunitz than any other guy we have. He doesn't fit with Malkin but we aren't changing anything.

This was Sullivan's team, right down to Jarry. They won two games. The biggest change needed is coaching philosophy.

Where they play good defensive hockey. I think what’s hard for you guys to understand is the coaching staff of the Islanders realizes they are going to spend time there. They accept it and coach in such a way where they can sustain it. Somehow they got the players to buy into it too.

They really aren’t. What rule book are we using? NHL rules Pens win 80%. Playoff no rule book they can be held trip and interferes with endlessly. Refs are the third team and decide half the playoff games.
- sextoymagic

I'm talking about the rule where you get an automatic 1 game suspension if you are given an instigator penalty in the last 5 minutes of a playoff game.

Zucker won't be there in September... and I'm not really feeling the Kunitz comparison...

Due to certain topics being discussed around here I was very curious as to what some of Sid's postseason 5 on 5 numbers besides production looked like the past 6 seasons...so I looked...

2016: 2.90 xGF/60 and 55.92 HDCF%

2017: 2.33 xGF/60 and 52.38 HDCF%

2018: 2.79 xGF/60 and 58.82 HDCF%

2019: 2.76 xGF/60 and 52.00 HDCF%

2020: 2.86 xGF/60 and 57.14 HDCF%

2021: 3.33 xGF/60 and 58.70 HDCF%

Pretty f'n consistent with his latest postseason showing being the best even against the years they won the cup. Its a fine line between producing or not and crazy good goalie performances are a factor in every year since the last cup...yes, there are more issues to the team losing those years no doubt, but when you look at just Sids here its been mainly the goalies/sh!t luck that have his individual production/success down.

For Geno

2016: 2.76 xGF/60 and 57.69 HDCF%

2017: 1.88 xGF/60 and 51.82 HDCF%

2018: 2.48 xGF/60 and 67.75 HDCF%

2019: 2.84 xGF/60 and 61.54 HDCF%

2020: 2.20 xGF/60 and 50.00 HDCF%

2021: 2.01 xGF/60 and 45.00 HDCF%

Won the cup with his lowest xGF/60 and had the highest xGF/60 in the Isles sweep when he came back just for playoffs after a long layoff, looking fairly sloppy and winded at times.

Geno should get an extension and both retire together as Penguins.

I don't think that's hard to grasp at all. Torts did the same poop when he was with the Rangers. Trotz is a top 3 coach in the league.

I'm pretty sure everyone here grasps this...my issue with it this postseason, up until a few games ago anyway, is the Isles weren't playing that way most of the games this postseason but still winning more than not. They weren't playing that well, and the usual Isles way, down the stretch of the regular season and it carried into the playoffs vs the Pens. They are getting better as the games go on it seems though.

I agree but hopefully he doesnt want like 10 mill haha. I think if he and Tanger took team friendly contracts they can ice a competitive team longer with those guys involved. For the record though, I think they have every right to try and get as much as they can/want and I wont hate on them if they try/do.

Or perhaps they'll consider what McKinnon is saying and doing...

I don't think they'll ask for more than they are making now. At least they shouldn't haha
I'd like to see both @ $8M per max.

Crosby must rub off on him... incredibly mature for him to basically say "this contract is what I was worth at that point in time" and not have any kind of regret at all when he talks about it. Not to mention, it sends a pretty strong message to Landeskog and Makar that you can make really good money without burying the team like McDavid and the Toronto guys have done.

I love Mackinnon... I'd be pretty happy if the Avs won the cup this year.

For the Pens this is something Letang and Malkin need to come to grips with. For sure they could get contracts matching their current cap hit in free agency.... are they willing to take a 20% haircut on that? That can be the difference between being able to bring in a game changer vs a depth forward.

I think Crosby might play until he is 40... I could totally see him doing something crazy like signing for $1M per year when this contract is up if they still have a chance at winning. That would be the ultimate Crosby thing to do.

That's what I was saying last thread. You just have a conversation with them during the talks. "Hey do you guys wanna actually compete more or do you wanna cash out and we're not gonna have a real shot at playoffs."

I think 8mil would be too much for the team to compete. Letang is at 7.5 now so he would be asking more at 8 lol. Geno is at 9.5.

I like the 5.8 and 7.1 mill ideas...but....Letang is probably worth more than Geno right now....hard to say....Geno looked machino for a nice while after he got his conditioning back before getting injured. Hoped to see him getting a proper offseason and training camp in this summer but that's out the window...
