Can someone please outline with a very basic explanation as to why we need Phil Kessel again. If you say to get rid of along term big contract for a short term contact, I understand. Anything else, you’ll probably need to speak slowly for me to understand. |

As any one person say they need Phil Kessel? Just a simple yes or no answer will suffice.

Are you kidding? Jake was one of the worst 200 foot players in the league last year! - jd250
Not sure I communicated the year
Clearly to you. Not this year. The previous year. He did have a better 200 foot player. Metrics, critics and eye test all agreed on that. |

Yes, the year before he was better, but you must look at the entire body of work and judge based on that, not a single season. Jake is nothing more than a pass happy, pond hockey, turnover machine. Its more than time the Flyers got out from under him. |

Not a lot of love on here for Jake. He is a top six NHL hockey play on just about every team with top line and power play abilities. I agree that he has a better pass than a shot. And sometimes those passes end up on the other stick. Many of his passes end up points for the Flyers. He is also tough on the puck in the O zone. Thought AV got some great 200 foot work out of him AV’s first year. Not so much this year.
His contract sucks and made worse by the flat cap. Wouldn’t have been a big issue if the cap was moving up.
With that said I like players like Coots way better than guys like Jake. But you need all kinds to have a good unit. |

Because the only thing keeping this team from being an instant dynasty is Jake Voracek?

You are all over the Bible...Old Testament and New.
Since I'm a hypocrite fake Christian I like to quote the Old testament too....
Leviticus 18:24-25
"Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sins, and the land vomited out its inhabatants."
I love Old Testament God he was tough but love how I can have multiple wives.
Viva Fake Christians!!!

I'd rather have a guy with a heart like Blake Coleman in TB. Maybe 2.5-3 million a guy that can play up and down the lineup.
Get Rannta as a backup.
Look for value D man that will be 4 mill range with upside trade NP for him...

See, there in lies the rub. So many people make the mistake in thinking the Flyers' top players are also top players in the league. Well I don't believe they are. Just compare the Flyers' top paid forwards: Giroux, Hayes, Voracek and JVR to other contending team's top forward group. Right now, would you take these Flyers core players over any of these other groups?
Capitals: Ovechkin, Mantha, Backstrom
Penguins: Crosby, Guentzel, Malkin
Bruins: Marchand, Bergeron, Pastrnak
Lightning: Kucherov, Point, Stamkos
Knights: Stone, Pacioretty, Marchessault
Avalanche: Landeskog, MacKinnon, Rantanen
Jets: Scheifele, Ehlers, Connor
Oilers: Draisaitl, McDavid , well does it really matter?
At one time, sure I would agree Giroux and Jake were top forwards, but they are not any more. JVR and Hayes were always considered next tier down from the top forwards in the league. To me this is as big of a problem for the Flyers as getting a top paring RHS defenseman. |

We need Kessel to rid ourselves of Jake's contract. We can always waive Kessel or trade him at the deadline when his salary is pro-rated. Other than this reason, I would never want that stiff on this team. Jake is bad enough. |

I completely agree. Couturier+Giroux+whoever are not in that league. Further, we have no one in the system who is going to be that fast skating great playmaker the modern game favors. Frost apparently projected as a 2C according to his most ardent booster here, even before his injury, .
But, tell me this then. If you believe what you wrote above, and you get whoever as RHD, and by your admission, this does not raise the club to be at par with the clubs you have mentioned, how do you propose to bridge the gap to get to be at the level of those clubs? That RHD will likely drop your drafting position from 13ish to 18-20ish. Your salary cap will be maxed out.
Just keep drafting in that spot and hope someone pans out? How did that hope work out last 10 years?
Once you answer that question, the logic of trading Couturier (which will both get you high drafts directly, and indirectly by improving our own draft position) will not seem quite so "asinine." |

Button has the Flyers taking Zachary L’Heureux in his mock draft.
Inevitable comparisons to Brad Marchand. Undersized, hard-nosed/reckless, some two-way ability, good shot. |
