Hayes would only waive his NMC for one team I would guess, the Boston Bruins, his home town team. The Bruins will be loosing Krejci this off season most likely, maybe Hayes would want to move if the Flyers wanted to do so. They make around the same amount of money. However this would be a black eye for Fletcher, since this was his first real FA signing when he came to Philly. - jd250
This idea is actually quite intriguing.

not sure, the Bruins are at Cap, now they have many players who are expiring, Add Hall but most others are small cap hits, looks like their D will need retooling, their middle six. Adding a Hayes cap hit would be tough. Wonder if Krejci will take a home town deal, he is not a 7 mil players but he is underrated as far as what he brings

I mean I would do it in a heartbeat if I were Fletcher, and Hayes and the Bruins wanted to. Hayes even when healthy is painfully slow, and really doesn't fit the clear blue print forged by teams like Vegas and Tampa.

I don't see the Bruins signing Krejci or Hall this offseason. They will have the cap space for Hayes if they want him. |

See, I don't agree with this. When he is healthy he was one of our better mail carriers. And the way he rags the puck when shorthanded was one of the things I was surprised about in the his first season here.
Now, don't get me wrong, he is no speed burner, but I don't think he is slow.

sure they would but does that bring them closer to a cup? Keep in mind Marchand heading to his mid 30's and Bergeron past them. They have to be in win now mode. If they let both those guys go, they will have holes in a 1 line O team and still have holes in the D. All the while while adding 7 mil from Hayes. I don't think Hayes is an upgrade over Krejci, it is neutral at best

Anyone think Mackinnon tests free agency when his contract expires? I know the Avs have oodles of high end skilled (young) players, but you can hear his frustration in his interview. “It’s always next year. It’s my ninth year and I haven’t won poop.” Does he go home to Canada? |

Is he worth $7.5M per season? For a good penalty killer?

Here’s how I break his contract down:
2M for points
2M for penalty kill
2M for locker room vibes
1M for Mic’d up content
.5M for nick-name ideas.

Well they have no second line as of now. Both Krejci and Hall are UFAs. Do you take a chance on Hall on a 4 year deal? Do you really want Krejci who apparently is non existent unless you give him someone like hall to play with? I still say the Bruins move on from both, at least I would if I were them. |

Yeah, me too. He used his frame really well the first season, so his speed wasn't an issue as much. I do think he is kind of slow though. |

do you think seattle comes out of the gate like vegas did? I don't think they will be near as good for some reason. |

Flyers would have to retain $$...Why would Boston want a slow 3C who puts up 45 pts a yr making 7M per for 5 more years? Over next 5 yrs he will not be getting any faster. You have seen what Hayes is, a good PK guy, a goofy character, puts up 45 points a yr, at times looks like an All Star and then disappears for weeks on end. Thats the player the Rags and Jets wanted nothing to do with. |

That all may well be true, but how would Kevin Hayes solve those issues? |

Doubt they even come close. Forget home runs, Vegas hit multiple grand slams that first summer. Don't think they've really made a misstep since either... maybe trading away Nick Suzuki will eventually come back to haunt them, but that's about it. |

AVs will be looking to add or change it up this off season - wcorvette
Apparently everybody who lost in the PO's is looking for a change. And everybody who failed to make the PO's too.
Busiest offseason in league history? Or just the usual overreaction? |

I agree 6 5 and he uses it right to control the puck but when he just loses one step like this season I can see why he becomes so much less effective. |

I am not saying I don't agree about them moving on but Hayes make very little sense for them. They will need to find players at 1/2 that salary who can fill in the holes. the 12 mil will need to get them 3 quality players. They have holes on both sides of the puck, truly are a 1 line team.

Somewhere in between would be my guess. In the past 10-12 years, we had a # of clubs who were largely set at the top: Pens, Hawks, Kings, Boston, Caps. Now, Toronto and Avs are facing the kind of challenges Bolts did a few years ago. Too skill heavy, not even experience and grit. Boston is looking for something beyond their 1st line. Our own issues are well known here. I do think you will see a lot of bidding for services.
Btw, after seeing the display of the Avs D this post-season, the move of Jones to Avs makes a lot more sense to me. |

What was really eye-opening to me during last night's game was how poorly Colorado defends, they were giving up chance after chance after chance. Vegas is a really good team. - jd250
It seemed to me more of sheer inexperience. Their top 4 are so young. The Graves-Girard duo was particularly bad. Time and time again what should have been easy outs resulted in turnovers because of the heavy pressure Vegas put on them. Time after time, their defense allowed VGK guys to take up inside position near their net.
Up front, Avs played stupid. Lots of skating around, way too many passes. Not high % playoff hockey. Was there a single deflection attempt that ended up as a sog? Their forwards were getting too deep.
And Mackinnon thought they outplayed Vegas in games 5 and 6. He seemed lost, really.
Disappointing to watch and hear, really. I would think it's curtains for Bednar. |
