Ok, I appreciate your explanation.
However, I disagree to an extent.
Zib has become one of the more dangerous PKers playing right now. For a stretch there it seemed as if he and Buch produced at least 1 grade A scoring chance per penalty. Why would you take him out of that role just to reduce his minutes? That can be achieved in other ways. Maybe start the 2PP more. Give defensive draws to this new center we are talking about...
I understand your point about defense increasing down the line up, but it doesn't have to conform to a rigid formula. The game is so fluid, having all the different talents covered on the roster provides flexibility that makes the other teams strategizing more difficult. Regardless of traditional slotting into roles.

So I made mention that I dont necessarily say we NEED to trade Strome. However yet, playing him as a RW where Buch might usually play, since were likely to trade him. We can retain his skill, rely less on him as a center/faceoffs and capitalize on his best attributes.

We dont HAVE to take Zib off the PK, however having that ability to not have to rely on him for every single important faceoff is huge. Maybe we dont have to have Zib out there for the PK faceoff but we make a line change that has him out there to still play it. We maximize Zibs best, while not having to have him out there for the faceoff which hes average at. OR for sake of the current discussion, what if its O’Reilly-Zib as your forwards on the PK?

I think when you have these kinds of players who can play 200ft you can be more fluid. When youve got guys who can play anywhere on the ice, you can be as fluid as you want. If we land, hypothetically, O’Reilly and Dvorak we have an interchangable middle 6 situation. I could see Dvorak becoming kinda like Trochek.

Too early to make a call like that, but it will sure be nice to see them possibly together at Hartford this year!

That Hartford team is gonna have a stacked defense.

I see something in Schneider developing into a Shea Weber type.

I can never remember who is on which side.
I'd like to have Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Schneider and Lundkvist. Trouba obviously we have for min. 3 years. But let me guess, Lindgren and Miller are probably the only LHD on the list, right? The others are still blueish enough chips to package with whichever forward is out and some picks to net a center.
I know this is unlikely, but tell me that wouldn't be the best D Corp in the league for about 5 years!! Maybe not right away, but at some point.

What Lindholm are you referring to at the end of the post? Hopefully not Elias Lindholm - there is no way the Flames are giving him up unless it's bringing back a bonafide #1 Centre (Eichel?), and then only if he HAD to be part of the package to make the trade happen.

Scheifele got 4 game suspension for the hit on Jake Evans. Evans is out indefinitely with a concussion.

For the AHL… youre looking at Robertson/Lundkvist, Jones/Schneider. Sadly, we dont have the space for something like that past their ELCs.

What would it take for Turcotte
Have a lot of high end D in the system
Have to think they can do a one for one hockey trade
Obviously the rangers need more but I’d like to see a youthful hockey trade

If Turcotte is as good as people say, then Miller for Turcotte should fit the bill.

Miller is our blue chip trade piece if we can get a franchise C for him, absolutely.

Miller is going to turn into an elite top pair shut down dman. I’d be very hesitant/almost no way I’d trade him. I’d give them a package of Jones/Kravtsov+ for Turcotte. We have a lot of very good players that we just won’t have room for, I think Jones is one of them.

Look… at the end of the day, if you want top notch players, it will cost you the same. I get it… as fans we want to do a quantity over quality trade but when youre talking about a potential franchise C, you gotta give up the franchise D.

I don’t think Turcotte is a franchise center, I believe Miller a franchise dman.

Agree that turcotte isn’t a franchise center but he’s the exact type of center we need. Miller is not a franchise Dman. He will be good but I don’t see him as a 1 or 2. If he stays a ranger, I hope I’m wrong!

Y’all know how I feel about Miller. One season and he absolutely surpassed all expectations for a rookie season. Then you’ve got the fact that he’s 6’5. Look at what fox turned into in just his second season. I’d rather trade any other defenseman not named fox. You definitely don’t trade Miller for someone who’s never played an nhl game, no matter how promising he is (outside of a trade for a #1 overall pick franchise player type, which wouldn’t happen)

What are the projections for Turcotte? 2nd line center? What are the projections for Miller? 3rd 4th pairing defenseman? Will he be come a 1 or 2? I dont think so.

What is a 4th pairing defenseman? I’d like to revisit this conversation at the trade deadline next season and see which one of us is eating crow

He’s going to be one of the best 2C’s in the game that can be a 1C when needed but not on a consistent basis. I’m not saying he’s going to be bad and maybe it’s more of how I view Miller, as a future top 10 dman in the league.
