Clown league. - Grinder47
I don't know man. I fn love big clean hits. I've watched this one so many times because everyone up here is talking about it and debating on it. I've seen so many posts about it on social media today. I've never seen a heads up wrap around attempt before, have you? His head was down half way behind the net.. MS has a lot of time not hit him in the HEAD first. It's the initial point of contact from a charge... to a heads down player... I dunno man... There's several things wrong with the play, really
Mr Avery agrees with you though...

Haha exactly. I’m normally defending Tom Wilson but this hit was pure garbage. |

Why the (frank) would you not hit him??? He plays for the other team and is driving the puck to your net. It was a charge. |

Evans never looked behind to see if someone was coming. He had no idea of his surroundings.
Keep your head on a swivel was a popular saying of former Penguins coach Bob Johnson. Probably still good advice, but what do I know.

Yeah, a charge to the head... Plus hitting him probably wasn't the smartest play to try and prevent it. You can't deny that, Grinder. He had a better chance disrupting with stick with potential of going back the other way quicker with it. He hit after it was scored.
I still think he had a momentary lapse of judgement. Kinda frustrated and lost his cool...followed through.
There's clear rules about this now, Sid's misfortunes brought it into the major limelight and there's been changes to protect these guys brains. They want players to be able to still remember their own names when they're 40. Players shouldn't expect to be hit to the head like that. |

Haha I was gonna bring his name up but didn't want to start that whole thing but since it was....if Tom Wilson did this it wouldn't be a 50/50 on if it was dirty or not. It be like 90/10 |

This is hardly a 50/50 split. How many times has Scheifele been reprimanded by the league. Now compare that to Wilson.
Scheifele deserved some type of discipline, much like when Steve Downey got one game for his hit on Lovejoy. He got four because it was against Montreal.

What do you mean? Everywhere Ive read people are 50/50 on clean vs dirty. And you know damn well if Wilson did it instead of Schief that it would be 90 dirty/10 clean. |

I don't know where your reading but it's overwhelming that Scheifele deserved a suspension. Just because someone posts twenty times compared to ten guys posting twice doesn't make it split.
This is Scheifele's first discipline in how many years? Can Wilson say that? Scheifele has never even had any questionable hits before now. Wilson has more than anyone. Wilson's intentions should be questioned every time.

I don’t think stick on puck stops that goal either way. You have a small guy leaning hard on his stick for a wrap around empty netter. A tall guy reaching gas so much less leverage, I know I’m tall. I don’t think Scheifele expected the hit to be so big. Oh and he hit him in the chest. I think the head ice contact is what rattled Evans. |

His first point of contact was his head. He was out cold when he hit the ice.
That was an easy play for him to break up with his stick. You dont need leverage. No one cares if you are tall, height would have zero impact on having enough leverage to knock the puck away. |

That's what I don't understand about this play at all. Put your stick out and I don't see how he scores. - acdc1206
Yea it's a possibility, but i bet he still scores. I actually thought his best option to stop it was a hit. if evans actually has his head up for 1 millisecond after he passes the dots, he probably re-thinks his wrap around. but he literally skates with his eyes glued to the ice for 3 whole seconds.

head was not the first pt of contact, his head snaps toward schieffle first, then back. I actually don't think there is much contact with the head at all, its almost entirely a whiplash. A really bad whiplash. |

It's not really worth arguing about but he drove right through his chin. Yes, he obviously caught his body too, but he caught his chin first.
Watch the replay in slow motion from the corner camera view. What is the first part of Evans body to move? His head folds before any impact with his body is made. There is a lot you can argue on this but I don't know how you can argue his head was the initial point of contact.
