Also Codes, the Canucks drafted 2nd in their expansion year. They lost the spin with the Sabres who took Perrault.

I dont agree with that either though. I just think expansions teams shouldn't be gifted anything. I'd be happy seeing a bottom dwelling expansion team in their first year in the league, then enter the draft lottery like the rest of the league. (The following year)

Van had a better opportunity i'd say, just two teams in the draw.

Despite Vegas' success expansion franchises start well behind existing franchises. With the salary cap, they're now more able to leverage other GM's mistakes is all.

Canucks still perfect in NHL draft lottery: 0-for-forever.

Most of them are. Vegas is the outlier.

Want Clarke or McT

Better chance Clarke is there seeing the order now and all the love McT is getting lately.

More the reason to see more trades & harder to dump cap for many teams.

We need 1 dump at least imo

They made out like bandits in their expansion draft. League made it easy for them, but they made some great moves regardless and have made some fantastic moves since.

Surely we're done with expansion team now that the league is at 32 teams, right?

Hopefully last time we have to go through this malarky.

We are more likely to draft luke Hughes than we are to draft Clarke or McTavish IMO. Those two will be gone in the top 7 I think

No doubt.
Vegas was given a head start that most expansion teams weren't provided.

How GMs negotiate this expansion draft will be interesting to see if anyone learned a lesson.

More teams equal more money. I imagine we see some relocations before we see more teams added, but I wouldn't rule it out.

The Sens were garbage, Sharks were garbage, Ducks were garbage.....on and on and on. Those teams were so bad they were given odds of 9, 9.5, 10.0 on pro-line. It's also not really fair to get someone to invest half a billion plus then ask them to bleed money for a decade.

We gotta draft D if on the board.
Only way to improve is drafting them.

Don’t force it if not.

Canucks have been in the top 10 for most profitable franchises (NHL) for decades and have been garbage for the vast majority of their existence lol.

Vegas was great because other GMs panicked and Vegas was smart enough to squeeze them. Not so much because of their draft position.

It'll be interesting to see how many teams make trades to other teams, or just let Seattle take a player.

Whatever happened to Quebec City or Ontario getting a 2nd team?

Could move CBJ and ARZ.

The Canucks were a financial mess before they moved downtown and for a few years afterwards until development downtown made it easier for fans to attend games. They're also in a canadian market even though it's probably a softer one than most.

I hear you. I still just don't like how easy expansion teams have it now. Maybe a better compromise to me would be a draft that locked them between say 10-20, or in the middle tier of the final standings. To think that Seattle has a legitimate shot at being a playoff team next year with how the league has structured its expansion draft and entry draft seems broken to me.

I think it's more like you head to a strip bar and aren't really interested in the 400lb hairy one on stage.

To me it's not the entry draft aspect it's the lack of protecting players that gives them such an advantage. I'd almost rather see them draft a year earlier even an get to build up a minor league team.
