I dont have it backwards at all. Tampa isn't going to trade their 2nd best defenseman (who is on an extremely team friendly contract with term). They would sooner trade Stamkos than they would cernak. The whole cernak thing seems so silly.
- Codes1087

Fine. What will they do?
Silly is saying nothing avoiding their real issues.

It's along the same lines as Cirelli gettimg dealt, they are the young core pieces replacing the older guys.

Tampa has the luxury of having soo many players pull their weight with production relative to their high cap hits. Teams are willing to take on their players in trades because they still bring value. JT Miller is an example. The same applies to their top 6. They will get under the cap and still be insanely good.

Their bottom 6 right now is pretty much all players with sub 900k contracts.
- Codes1087

Amazing grasp of the obvious 👍
Wonder why that is? Geez maybe cap problems & even more next year.

They will re-sign their bottom 6 to slightly higher aavs while letting some walk. Use buyouts. Vegas will take a roster player. Bury tyler Johnson. And make a trade with a team that has cap space, and will trade one of the players I mentioned above (palat, gourde, killorn, McDonough, Johnson). They shed miller, pacquette, Coburn, they will do the same in the off season and remain a powerhouse team.

Their bottom 6 all make sub 900k and they are still one of the best teams in the league, and you say it as if its a bad thing. (don't tell lordy).

Its almost as if you don't have to spend 7 million on a 4th line to be good. Tampa has and will continue to be compliant and competitive. You can keep dreaming about cernak all you want but he's not getting traded lol.

McDonough is getting older and slowing down. Cernak provides grit and physicality, something sergachev (rarely does), hedman and McDonough (don't really do). Even if he's 3rd best, which is arguable, hes a great 2nd pairing defenseman at 24 years old and a sub 3mill cap hit. He's not going to be traded

Getting slower so Kracken do a favour for free? TB running outta picks fast.

Leaves 1.75m to sign 5. Just a beginning. Teams lining up to fleece them in a flat cap era.

I think a team like the Kraken would take Johnson on. Lot of term, but if they get a pick/prospect i could see it

Tampa isn't getting fleeced and won't get fleeced. They have a competent general manager. Like I said above, they will be compliant and remain competitive just like they did this year after everyone said they would have the same issues.

Gourde, killorn, palat all still have value. They still produce. The idea that Teams are all going to unify together and all lowball tampa because they are pushed to the cap limit is just silly. Teams will make offers, tampa will shed salary, and they will be just fine.

It's literally the same thing as offloading Schmidt for a 3rd rounder to sign petro.

Tampa will explore palat, killorn, stamkos, McDonough, Johnson, gourde before they trade cernak.

They will also have buyouts and vegas taking a contract off their books.

Totally. Fanboy mania. Cernak isn’t going anywhere. Their cap situation isn’t much worse than ours lol

McJohnny would have finished first in points on the Canucks this year. Monahan played injured the last part of the season, he’s still the leading goal scorer from his draft class.
But again it just an opinion.

Nah it’s in fantastic shape. GM’s lining up for slaughter. Cap space galore around the league. So easy to unload salary everyone should do it.

They have plenty of bargaining chips, throw in a foote to take johnson. Maybe a pick. Kraken gain great vets/pick/prospect. Tampa still a powerhouse. Certainly won't be cernak or cerelli when killorn, palat and mcdonugh all have value to add to young teams.

Exactly, you get a good player for under value. They get cap space. Lots of GMs will do it imo.

McJohnny ya right bud, he can maybe lace his skates up for him. Finishing first on the Canucks in points is quite an achievement, except for the whole missing the playoffs when you were supposed to be a powerhouse. Wakey wakey!
