The Flyers screwed themselves when they blew all their future cap space on Kevin Hayes.
- Tomahawk

And now, there is every indication they are going to screw themselves again by doing a ridiculous deal for Seth Jones. I like Seth a lot, but he does not make us a contender, and the only way I see us become one is either doing a full rebuild (first choice) or being patient for much longer.

A farfetched wildcard hope is that Couturier will pull a Seth Jones and want to win somewhere else and declare his disinterest.

So then there is no time frame? Team is in the pretty much the same spot from when he took over.

Yzerman still gets credit for Tampa long after he stepped away. Yzerman didn’t even draft Hedman or Stamkos but it did take time for his second and third picks to pan out. Only time will tell if Provorov and Hart are the real deal.

Nope, one bad setback during a strange season means they are all busts.

You're offering to replace one of the most productive wingers in the league w/ Brandon Saad and kid to be named later?

And York literally just turned pro...

- Tomahawk

So it is all about his point production to you it seems.

obviously. and seattle is going to take NAK, not JVR or Voracek. and couturier isn't going to want to re-sign. neither is giroux. no free agents want to come here.

Gonna laugh when the Rangers get both Eichel and Jones.

For Ivan yes it was setback after years of good play. For Hart it may or may not be. Doesn't have a long enough track record to make an assumption either way imo.

When does the "if" get removed from his plan to a "yes" it was failure? This is what year 7?
- hello it's me 2050

I agree with most of what your thinking is except 1 major part:
Hexy plan was never a fast rebuild. He was following what worked in la. It was always a 10 year rebuild. You can’t build a prospect base and unload contracts and fix cap fast. Hexy was right 2 years ago saying it wasn’t go time. Now is the time to turn roster over and start using prospects and and picks to acquire more high end talent. Even then in a couple years you need to still tweak with your assets. For example if we traded for eichel(seemingly available high end talent) (too bad nopa is a bust as that pick was a gift) and signed for example Hamilton surely we’d have to move cap $ and lose some prospects for those pieces. The key is to keep the pipeline coming and use those assets to replenish roster and use to trade for final pieces like kings did when threading for Richards and Carter. Unfortunately the plan was stopped by a bean counter and we will be stuck in mediocre state until rebuild started again. You have to do through draft and use assets AND somehow get high end talent. I don’t see any elite talent in organization. We have some very capable nice pieces how they are used will set the path. This year will be very telling. Do we keep status quo? Do we swing for high end talent? Do we try to win with moves made or continue on hexy plan? Yes people complain about hearing 2-3 years plans but that’s because they never considered it was a long 10 year plan to do it right. We blew the last 2 years by basically staying pat and not following hexy plan. So unfortunately we are stuck at midpoint.

No organization would ever accept a 10 year rebuild in any sport.

It was a reasonable f/u question. Many people have differing views on what a racist is these days. I figured well educated person like yourself would be able to supply an answer.

Flyers aren’t getting Seth Jones. After the exit Toronto just had they’ll be going after him for sure and have assets to offer than we can’t even come close to competing with.

Disagree... Hayes playing 2nd line center or even 3rd line center playing 2pp and major roll on pk and defensive game situations if slotted properly and with a true 1c (none of this 70 point not clutch coots crap) works fine. So for example
Eichel
Hayes or

Young talent1c( not Barzal but someone like)
Coots
Hayes

Obviously the cap $ in either scenario is about the same for example1 (10 mil+7mil)
Example 2 (5mil+7mil+ young high end talent on younger contract still.

The problem is we don’t have the young cheaper talent(thanks whiff on nopa) and coots isn’t worth the high end contract. If paying Hayes (as soon say) 7 mil is too much then what is paying coots gonna be? Because coots is gonna get 8-9mil for doing basically same as Hayes? Can’t have 2 contracts like that. Throws cap out of whack.

Moving coots now is the obvious play as his value is high. The longer we wait the less his value. Actually should’ve traded him last year.

It’s not “accepting” obviously they wouldn’t say 10 year rebuild... but once they said we have no farm system and have to move contracts that admitted longest of rebuilds coming. 10 years. Common sense should tell fans if you have to build through draft as every teams says and you have absolutely zero talent in farm your talking 3-5 years just to build a prospect pool with good talent through draft. I can’t for the life of me understand how fans can understand you build through draft don’t get this? We had squat in talent for farm and roster. The pain was trading and letting go of roster players we liked to gain the draft capital. The enjoyment should be watching the players progress and what moves are made to improve. The team of g/Jake was always a stop gap once rebuild started. The enjoyment is the young guys moving forward. Judge not them on making playoffs or cup contender with g/Jake regime. Or probably coots even. We still have pieces coming in next few years. Can we get the 2 most important pieces? That’s the question? A true #1 d and #1c ...

27. K. How many times a game on pp is puck sent to Jake and he fumbled it out of zone or dipsy doodles and throws pass somewhere where puck gets sent out of zone? 27 giveaways. Ok. He has 1 to 2 almost every pp. I could care less how the stat it. How many years you have to see that?
