Jarmo's not gonna trade Jones for picks and prospects. Like the PLD trade, he's gonna ask for turnkey talent in return. Trading one of their best players for picks/prospects is a surefire way to guarantee that Werenski, Laine, Domi etc will be asking to leave too the first chance they get (if they aren't already).
- Tomahawk

Columbus let Panarin walk for nothing, I can't imagine they make the same mistake with Jones. PLD was different because he had some term left on a reasonable contract and is a RFA so the team still retains his rights. Jones is a FA after next season and has stated he does not want to sign with Columbus. This means they must trade him and also means they have no leverage.

Benefit: they're both good (not perfect) players without immediate replacements.

there comes a time when the cord needs to be cut. Unless you do not believe in that scenario. They have run their course in philly. Let them be good players elsewhere.

Removing them off the roster allows you to acquire replacements. May not be direct replacement though it will be an NHL player.

York may turn out to be a better PP QB than Ghost, and sooner rather than later. With Jake, the Flyers can fill his offensive output with younger players (e.g. Allison, Frost, Foerster) and a good FA signing (Schwartz or Saad for example).

I think it's imperative that they move one of Jake, JVR, or Ghost in the ED if they're going to have the cap space to make any other moves that would have a significant impact on this roster for this upcoming season.
- Big_E_88

Based on what else the Flyers will put out there in the expansion draft, they are likely to lose JVR or Ghost -- no sweeteners needed -- or Voracek if they sweeten it.

Again, Seattle isn't in this to screw the Flyers. They are in it to build a competitive roster and to fulfill their obligation to get to the cap floor. When push comes to shove, they'll take whichever Flyer best helps them reach those two objectives.

didn't they let several players walk for nothing after that season?

Its not even about replacing his offensive output. It is about becoming a better team to me. Not worried at all about replacing his 50 points in any way.

Thanks Bill. I really hope that you're right. I realize that Seattle isn't in this to screw the Flyers, but understand how some of my posts may be coming across that way. My point is that the Flyers need cap space to make any impactful moves this offseason, and I just feel uncomfortable leaving it up to chance that Seattle might take one of the higher contracts off our hands.
It seems to me that a lot of people were initially surprised by a lot of the picks that Vegas made. Then it became apparent that targeting young, inexpensive players and/or guys on soon to be expiring contracts was their plan all along so they wouldn't be saddled with bad contracts right out of the gate. I expect Seattle to follow a similar game plan. And although they're trying to build the best team possible, and not out to screw the Flyers, the bottom line for the Flyers is that if they take Braun or NAK that would severely hamper any plans for this off season IMO.

I think it will be JVR because you know what you are getting with him, while with Ghost its more unpredictable. I think loosing Jake in the ED with a sweetener would be ideal for the Flyers in terms of cap space, since I think JVR and Ghost are easier to trade than Jake is.

Yes, but how many of these players you list are actually any good??

Hart - Yes, I think he will be good
Sanheim - ???? I'm not sure he will be any more than what he is now. If so considering where he was drafted .. a BIG miss!
TK - I like him so I will say he was a good pick
Haag - Bottom pairing defenseman drafted by Holmgren BTW, not Hextall! Facts Dope
Provorov - ??? I will say good for now, but I have concerns
Farabee - Good pick
Allison - ???? Come on, no idea yet on what he will be, jury is still out
Lindblom - bottom 6 forward, drafted in late rounds ... no value currently
Laczyzski - ??? again jury is still out, no idea what he will be yet
NAK - SUCKS
Myers - REALLY SUCKS!

So in 6 years of drafting, Hextall gave us Hart, Provorov, Farabee, TK, and a bunch of middling players ... thank you for proving my point!

whoops..hagg, ghost..whatever.

So all of Fletchers top 6 prospects will turn into nhl allstars, got it.....regardless, your point is about fletcher bringing in more talent......you know what, youre too obtuse, i cant explain it to you

Ghost drafted 3rd round in 2012 also by Homer, not Hextall. Coming from you I will take being obtuse as a compliment.

Where did you see that? Everything I have read says the opposite and flat cap for a few more years. OR are you saying the Flyers will have substantial cap space?

Not impressed if they make the playoffs next season.

- hello it's me 2050

Sorry I should have been more clear. With the player movement I expect this summer I think CF will have more cap space to use than he does this past season

Sorry for my sloppy wording

Yes very true, I think just having a more responsible forward out there that shoots more would be a strong improvement over Jake.

#1 RHD are the rarest commodity in the NHL right? Half the teams in the league will be kicking tires and half a dozen will be in serious pursuit. Jarmo's peddling one of the best players in the league. He's gonna get his asking price.

Why are we still talking Hextall, he's been gone for 2 years now. Not sure he brought in alot of talent as you suggest though. We can agree to disagree.

When does the "if" get removed from his plan to a "yes" it was failure? This is what year 7?

When it’s fully proven our young talent pool is awful. It isn’t.

You're offering to replace one of the most productive wingers in the league w/ Brandon Saad and kid to be named later?

And York literally just turned pro...

I agree with all of this! They changed/ruined the culture here in Philly. Especially now when I see Chicago, boston, Pitt, Vegas, etc all playing heavy games it's a no brainer. This once proud franchise is a shell of what it used to be and I believe you're right that it all changes when Ed passed and hexy made some bad trades to move out our heavy players

Nice post!

- Bob Habib

Thank you.

One bad season does nothing to suggest players such as Provorov, Hart, Konency, Lindblom or Myers can’t take the next step.

The Flyers screwed themselves when they blew all their future cap space on Kevin Hayes.
