This is correct. The Hawks are in the eleven spot right now (because of AZ losing their pick). They will have one of the following picks - 1, 2, 11, 12, or 13. - mohel
Well, the way the past 1.5 years have been going, and we are talking the NHL here, I wouldn't be surprised if a team makes a jump to one of the 1st two spots and then Arizona takes the other and they have to have a do-over.
That scenario would be so NHL. The team that didn't have to forfeit their pick would be irate.

I just tried the draft simulator and the Hawks moved up to #2 the first time I tried it. If this happens on Wednesday I’m buying a lottery ticket. And if I win the $70M CDN jackpot, I’ll buy you a Molson Golden and a shot of The Macallan Gold. - paulr
Is that all $70M CDN will buy? |
|

|
They're actually going to pick 11 because Phoenix doesn't get a pick this year they're just included in the draft lottery - GPHawksfan
Thanks for pointing that out. I meant to include it and just forgot. Seems like I had more luck on the simulator. Hawks got 2nd on just my 2nd try and 1st on my 14th try. |

That’s all I’d buy for Mo. $70M will get a two four of beer, a bottle of The Macallan and a medium pizza. |

The Blackhawks' rights to Roope Laavainen (2017 4th round) and Cole Moberg (2019 7th round) just expired.
Moberg played this season on an AHL contract, so he might stick around nonetheless.
Their rights to Josh Ess (2017 7th round) expire Aug. 15.
Also, the IceHogs have resigned Dylan McLaughlin. |

Unless they trade him at the trade deadline next year. As a top pair defenseman on an expiring deal, he'd bring a serious haul then. - mohel
True but i see imo this going down at the draft or sometime in the offseason. |

Jones is eligible to sign his next contract once the new league year starts (in July, typically). The Jackets will get the most return if the new team signs him to a new deal as part of the trade. The new team isn't gonna load up the return if they only have him for a year. At the trade deadline, a contender may do so. Perhaps they'll trade him then, but that involves a risk of injury. So, most likely, imo, the trade will be immediately followed up by a new contract. Which would mean he wouldn't become available to the Hawks. - mohel
I thought he said he was planning on testing free agency. |

From the Columbus Dispatch:
"Sometime within the last week or so, Seth Jones informed the Columbus Blue Jackets that he will not be re-signing,” Friedman said during a TV broadcast. “I’m saying, ‘for now,’ at this point, because I don’t like to deal in absolutes, but it does appear as if he is prepared to test free agency and we’ll see how Columbus decides to handle this over the next little while.”

It means you will have money left over to buy not only a heart for Tin Man Nick, but also a brain for Scarecrow Nick and courage for Cowardly Nick.
I'm so glad the Loaves lost.
And still laughing about it.
They might get a crown for all-time chokers. Or at least a participation medal.
Maybe they can hand the medals out same time the Preds hang their 2021 playoff banner? |

Which means he's not re-signing with Columbus. If he likes the team he's traded to, he'll sign a new deal. Which means he has some power over the team he's going to be traded to. If he tells the team he's being traded to that he's not going to sign there, they won't give up the haul necessary to get him. |

If you're Seth Jones, your bargaining power is much better if you can negotiate with multiple teams, and decide where you want to play. If he's smart, he waits 12 months and cashes in. He'll make more money and have control of where he plays. His only risk is of injury. |

Columbus will trade Jones to Toronto, Kekalainen already fleeced the Loaves this year with the Foligno trade.

I thought this was a very spot-on statement from Ben Pope about expectations for this offseason (and I would welcome it).
As of now, the Hawks are on track to have too many NHL-caliber players on one-way contracts next season but not enough elite players to contend. Bowman will look to remedy the former issue, and potentially also the latter, with trades. Strome and Zadorov headline the bait list.

Well, as I just explained, he already has control of where he plays. No team in the off-season is gonna trade for him without his agreeing to sign a new deal. So he doesn't have to wait 12 months to cash in and play where he wants. The money will be the same next year because there's a flat tax. So, he can have everything he wants this off-season without the risk of injury.

If Pope is using "one-way contract" to mean the Hawks will have too many players who would need to go through waivers to be sent to the minors, rather than the actual meaning of the phrase, he is showing the lack of knowledge many suspect he possesses. |

God, you are obtuse.
If he waits, he'll make more money. Yes, there will be a flat CAP, but different teams will have different amounts of cap space. He'll certainly make more for a team with more room to fit him in. The only benefit of signing with the team he's traded to is the mitigation of injury risk.

Thanks Wiz.....
If Hawks land at #12, is there an impact center or Goalie in that spot? IMO, think thats the hole(s) they need to keep plugging. - SteveRain
Did you mean that one team behind them wins the lottery and they actually pick at slot #12 because Arizona lost theirs or slot #11
I have to think one at very least of the goalies is left at #11 or #12...the 6' 6" Sebastian Cossa IS going quickly and Jesper Wallstedt rated higher all year...I only have Coss at #18 beibng conservative and figuring the best goalie goes, but can TWO really go or will one linger?
No impact centres at all and maybe only ONE centre who needs up a top two line Centre, Mattie Beniers, and by value of that he seems to warrant value as a high selection. I am not sure if I take him over Dylan Guenther,or Kent Johnson both thought as wings.
You will hear most of the draftniks chiding what my site has said in the personal player write ups that there is not much certainty in Kent Johnson, Chaz Lucius, and Cole Sillinger being GOOD NHL centres based on their current skating pace.
So I would expect the centres not ending up centres to fall and maybe the defenseman Corson Carson to be more safe selections, eg. Corson Ceulemans and
Carson Lambos.
I just hears the Central Scouting rep say after pick one he see SEVEN PLAYERS that he is convinced could be ranked all over slots 2-8.
It would be nice to pick 1, or 2, but two brings ADDED PRESSURE.

I am obtuse, no doubt. Not sure where that leaves you....
Unless Jones and his agent live in the same cave as you, they know pretty much what the next contract will be (hence the flat tax comment). Seth also probably knows which teams he wants to play with long-term. So, if the Jackets can do a deal with one of them and like the return, Seth will sign his extension and be traded to that team.
Time will tell, Chief.
Btw, he won't be a Hawk - why would he want to play for JC? |

Here's a question for Wiz or anyone else here.
Do you think Power is more likely to be a Hedman or an Erik Johnson at the end of the day? - Popsghostly
He is being called "Hedman Lite."
Just remember that Hedman took a lot of time to learn ND GROW nd become more aggressive at both ends. He was already making bigger dollars and wasn't really earning them.
Erik Johnson isn't as big, fluid or with as strong a offensive side PRIOR to ever playing a game.
I agree, that no one knows with any kids until they decide to put in the work, stay positive and dont get hurt before they feel able/ confident and have bought in.
I don't care what I see in a junior, until I see it game after game as a pro , and that takes time....

Zadorov is first in line for a brain. Matthews could use the heart. Not sure who needs courage. Leddy could learn to play defense. 😊
