two things about that:
1- let's talk about winning the current series first
2- but since we're going there lol, pretty sure a huge majority of people thought the habs beating the laffs was basically impossible, so I'd go easy with the "0 chance"... I know if it's a team like the Avs the odds of winning are lower but still, the fat lady sometimes sings too early - Pat1993
Series might have been different if JT wasn't knocked out in game 1 though.
$11M cap-space watching from the sidelines. Take 10M (say... Price) from your roster and series might have gone differently as well.
It's not surprising that a healthy Winn is heavily favored favored.

his injury and recovery could've also been a rallying point for the leafs, kinda like TB with Stamkos... and I doubt Tavares was as instrumental in the leafs' success as Price is for the habs'

Of course it made a difference but it’s part of hockey. I dare say in this series, injuries actually helped the Habs. When Evans went down to injury, KK came in and made a difference. When Lehkonen went down it was Caufield’s turn to come in and shine. During the season though, the Habs were missing Price for a long span, Gallagher for 6 weeks as well and yet, no one took that into account when saying the Leafs would destroy them. A fully healthy Habs team is a lot different from the team we saw stumble into the playoffs..

I wasn't implying they were equal. I'm saying they would both have drastic effects on the performance of the team on the ice.

What I am hearing is that the Leafs' depth could not match the Habs depth when it came to managing injuries. And sure, JT is quantifiably a better point producer than any Habs player that missed time in the series, fair enough.
But the main issue with the Leafs comes down to a lack of depth because due to how they have decided to spend their cap dollars. And while the Habs might not have the high end talent the Leafs have, they have depth and flexibility in their line-up that the Leafs cannot match.
That is what ultimately cost the Leafs the series, more than anything. |

This certainly is part of it.
I'd also say the Leafs got ... ... outcoached.

I'd say the Habs won despite their coaching. If Ducharme decides that working his top 4 D into the ground is the winning formula, he'll find out pretty damn quick that it won't work beyond the first round. |

Something most be going on with Romanov that either has him in the coach and GMs poophouse like attitude or he sustained some secret injury. I can't make any sense of it otherwise. IMO he's probably better than Chiarot and of course the scrub Dmen. |

Sorry, having trouble crapping on Chiarot right now... He agitated and played physical in Round 1, and was an absolute workhorse (sorry Dale Weise). Better than Kulak? Likely... Keep Gus' minutes low and roll 5 D with Romanov, play Gus in PP situations. I hope this isn't an issue that's going to cost us Romanov... I really like that kid. |

Salary=what relevance. Take 2x5 mill players, and so on. |

I think the issue with Romanov is that they might see him more as a high-risk player. they surely could've used his skillset in the last series but wanted to avoid as much as possible any too costly mistakes... not saying the current Dmen being used aren't risky at all but the point is I doubt there's something deeper that could mean him and the habs having to go their separate ways or whatever |

ha, loved his rant in his latest podcast about the habs (game 7 hadn't been played yet)... he was going on about how MTL has sucked ever since Roy left, and felt the laffs had what it takes to avoid a choke job and send the habs packing... oops
