OEL being traded would've been a blockbuster in like 2015/16.

Now it wouldn't be as big. Unless being in Phoenizona just drains the soul and he could find his game again elsewhere

OK, I'll bite:
OEL to Boston for Matt Grezlcyk and Jake Debrusk and the Toronto 7th
Or, OEL to Vancouver for Nate Schmidt and a 2nd and a 3rd

Actually the Nucks one will not work unless they dump Louie's cap first

10-Stamkos traded

Not sure how long TBL can play the LTIR game. Maybe they deal a pick to Seattle to take Johnson+, but they still need some relief if they want to keep the window open.

- Only_A_Ladd

Not sure what fan it was. But someone suggested that TBL could look at sending Sergachev to Seattle in exchange for a pick and seattle taking Johnson. Seemed interesting.

I think there are a few potential blockbusters there. One situation that intrigues me is Auston Matthews. He will be UFA in 3 seasons; if the speculation is true that he plans on heading home to Arizona, could Toronto deal him beforehand?

Additionally . . . I posted this on another blog, but I think Tampa is going to shock this off-season and trade 2-3 players who make north of 4 million. With a NMC, I think Stamkos is safe UNLESS management and/or team ownership are total Richards about it and make it so untenable for him. I feel it's possible that Johnson is a casualty to Seattle, but I wonder if Tampa baits the Kraken (see what I did there!) by trading them an actual player of value (I'm looking at you Cirelli and Sergachev) that gives Tampa extra cap relief.

I know, I know . . . They shouldn't have let me out of my padded cell!

It was this in another chat. I could see this.

Or could they leave McDonough unprotected and give the Krack Cerelli to take him? That would be even more salary and an older player yet.

Best way not to be disappointed by the draft lottery is to expect the worst. Wings will draft 6th or 7th. The disappointment will come at the draft where they will likely end up having to draft another winger and prolong the rebuild by another year because they aren't adding top end talent to positions of need (center/left dman).

Stamkos has a cup so it's not like he'd be itching to go to a contender for a last run, because he's already on a stacked team. There really isn't a reason for him to leave. What team is in a better situation than TB? None right now.

Eichel will go somewhere at some point, but he's a huge risk for a building team to risk assets for. If Det were to trade for him and he doesn't return to top form, it would set them back a decade.

I don't think Toronto needs another star player, they need a lot of depth and effort guys. I'd say the same thing for EDM.

Stammer ain’t do poop for that cup lol he wants a real cup.

I pondered that one, too, but figured they'd want to lose Johnson the most of anyone off their roster. Trading Sergachev / Johsnon as opposed to Cirelli / McDonagh seemed like less of a loss to Tampa, at least in the short term, anyhow.

He would never trade Sergachev to get rid of Johnson.

Bobrovski to Seattle for a ‘22 1st & 2 2nds. FLA doesn’t need him, he’s backing up the kid, Seattle needs to hit the floor, but needs serviceable players.

Johnson’s gone, just a matter of when. I would opine Seattle-bound for sure.

I think you’re right. Would it be insane if Eichel ended up in Toronto? I doubt it, but that would be mind blowing

Any idea on the return? If not, no worries at all

- Jeremy Laura

Am wondering if TOR plays with the ‘Canes for some D-help….Maybe Sjkie/Sjay/Sky + draft & high prospect however you spell Brady’s name for Nylander (he burned bridges holding out…) or Marner. Just a thought.

Toronto MUST snag some D-men. Theirs suck (being nice, here), and have a boatload of talented Forwards and need to dump salary because $44m in 4 guys is stupid cap management, no matter how you slice it. Beane’s coming into his own so there’s going to need to be an open roster spot for him.

Toronto's dealing, just a matter of with whom they deal. If I’m The Captain, I stay away from the Leafs. Big changes coming. Grab your popcorn.

My thinking too. Sergachev stays. Reward the Krack with Cerelli if they take Johnson! They have more centers in the wings than they have good defensemen! Colton, Stephens, ABB, Joseph, Gourde, even Smith, all have center experience!

I seriously hope this is comedy. Florida would need to shell out the draft picks (and LOTs of them) to have Seattle take Bobrovsky.

Tampa Bay also has very few trading chips thanks to the abundance of NMC/NTC they've handed out over the years. Cirelli, Sergachev, Cernak and Rutta are the only players making 1 million + (and signed for next season) that Tampa is "free" to move anywhere. I'm sure they'll just find a way to "hide" $$ again . . . no biggie!

Nope, not even close. It was something thrown out there that got people talking, and adding ideas. Ya know, the whole intent of Jeremy’s idea. But, yes, FL would need to sweeten any deal with Bob involved, unloading a $10m back-up would take some doing!

Dude, spot-on call about burying cap-hits in LTIR. What TB did was absolutely reprehensible.

Blame the NHL for allowing such a ridiculous loophole to exist! BTW --- they STILL haven't voted to fix it yet either!

Lol no. They didn’t break any rules. Kucherov had legit surgery. They just beat the system.

I disagree, just because he could have come back earlier. Stamkos too. Coming back at exactly game 1 is just flagrant. Chicago did it with Kane. They spent the money and waited. They need to add 3rd party verification in this stuff. Lupul got in a ton of trouble calling out the Leafs for their LTIR abuse. TB just played the game because it’s there to be played.

The league could step in, they even threatened to. They need to kill the dead contract deals too. TB didn’t have enough cap space to bring Stamkos or Kucherov back. So, miracle, they are ready at exactly the right time. It’s the Patrick Kane rule and they used it. League’s fault for letting it exist

Maybe miimize the LTIR to only $9-10M can be used??? This would be a step in the right direction.
