If Colorado acquires him, there's no way it doesn't involve Bowen Byram coming back the other way, and again, Colorado needs to be sure they can fit everyone with the contracts they have coming up. Colorado fans, are you willing to do that? . . . .

Jones is not worth any kind of lopsided offer. You can only get so much blood out of a rock. Not much blood in rocks. These salaries have got to stop. Money does not buy you success. Teams that play like teams do. They should just put a lid on salaries and make teams live by it. That would stabilize a lot of things in sports. Too much time is spent on SHOW ME THE MONEY. Enough is enough.

Assuming leafs can talk to Jones about an extension ahead of time.

This isn't terrible but i think it's Holl going back, Dermott is not quite good enough to grease this trade imo

Columbus: Seth Jones

Flyers: Rights to Sanheim
Flyers: Rights to Patrick
Flyers: Ghostisbehere
Flyers: 2nd round pick
Flyers: 4th round pick

That, to me, looks like a reasonable offer for one guaranteed year of Jones' services.

Oh, and Columbus, while I have you on the phone....let's talk about Patrik Laine.......

If Jones goes to the Av's because "he wants to win", asking for $10 mil would be a bad idea. Av's aren't winning if he is taking up that much of the Cap. (See Toronto, Chicago, and Edmonton). He needs to make $6 mil.

Why thank you. Care to discuss?

Now obviously Jones could be traded for any number of assets, sure . . . I was simply implying that this is the likely piece I see Kekelainen wanting from Colorado if they're even remotely interested in "bringing him home," as this article suggests. (Hell, if I'm Columbus I would even do that deal 1 for1!)

What Columbus has (had) going for them was an enviable d-core; with the mass exodus of late that's becoming not the case. Columbus should want to either rebulid it or find that talented center they're looking for. Not sure the Jackets have any interest in Kadri or Jost.

Um, Columbus would take that for sure, especially because Seth Jones is a UFA in just a few weeks.

Jones isn't going to Colorado...They have Erik Johnson and Pavel Francouz coming back off of LTIR next year and that adds $8mm to your Cap Hit. Makar and Landeskog require new contracts as do a host of others and you only have about $14mm left. Johnson has a NMC as well so he can dictate where he goes...
He's not going to Tampa either..Point and Palat have 1 year left on their contracts, Woodrow and Coleman and Colton are UFA/RFA, and they only have 5 real D Men signed for next year..With the Cap expected to be flat for the next 4 seasons, there's no way he goes there...
Flyers have contracts up for Giroux and Couturier after next season and arguably they come in at about the same Cap hit now of $12.7mm, with Couturier getting a raise and Giroux a cut. They have zero goalies signed for next year (one might be mean and say that they didn't have any signed for the 2nd half of this season but I digress) and you only have $12mm of total cap space to work with and contracts up fr sachem, Morin, Nolan, Braun and Hagg in a year so probably not there either..
Edmonton might be a team to watch here ..They could let Barrie go and bring in Jones at a raise and still be able to sign the rest of what they need...The RNH situation will dictate how much flexibility they have...

I don’t think Calgary should be buyers as we are likely heading for a retool/rebuild but I think I could agree to this as long as the pick is this years.

Fair enough and if enough teams buy into Jones’ bad analytics Patrick may be able to get it done, although I didn’t think his trade value was very high right now

As far as the Oilers go the, $$ certainly make sense, but even with 2 of the best players on the planet, Edmonton isn't a huge draw for the top UFA's. IF they traded for him, one would factor him being a "one and done" kind of addition, similar to Barrie (or dare I say Pronger, who demanded out after 1 season oh so long ago). Caleb Jones is there, but he seems to have fallen out of favor with Tippett, so not sure the team will get his glowing endorsement to entice big brother to stick around!

Straight up Willy Nylander for Seth Jones.

Nylander has term remaining, is signed to a tradeable contract and is coming off a strong playoff performance. He becomes a top line player for a team in need of a star up front.

Jones has 1 year remaining on his deal so short term cost savings for the Leafs, gives them a chance (unlikely) to resign him but flexibility cap wise after that and another strong piece to contend in 2022.

The two teams have made deals in the past and this one might fit both teams. Would probably require Dubas to be replaced to make it happen though, he did promise Willy that he wouldn't be moved.

Anybody from the Sharks that doesn't have a NMC , Oh wait that's most of the team thanks to Douglas Wilson. For Jones
