Wasted a pick on Foligno when they really needed help on D.

How much first round experience do you need before you can get out of the first round?
- manvanfan

Steve Yzerman made it out once in his first 7 years, twice in his first 10 years. He was pretty good from the eye test although i'm not sure what the fancy stats say.

Did you go back 30-35 years for a reason?

Mitch Marner has 12 career PIMS in the playoffs (six minor penalties). Here they are:

2018 Game 2: Puck over glass
2018 Game 6: Puck over glass
2019 Game 5: Puck over glass
2020 Game 4: Tripping
2021 Game 1: Puck over glass
2021 Game 6: Puck over glass

I just mean a good hockey player. Matthews has stats but he's very good at both ends of the rink. He's an elite 1C.

I don't see that from anyone on the Canucks and the one i'd want playing against Matthews isn't EP but Bo. He'd have a better chance of neutralizing him IMO.

Gotcha šŸ‘

AM is very good in his own way. The kid should learn & be better for it if he wants to be great.

Yes. He was another highly touted 1st round C that joined a garbage franchise. He just popped into my head for that reason.

Detroit were known as the "dead things" before his arrival.

Does it matter or does it just hurt your feelings that it took a great player awhile to have playoff success while simultaneously reviving a franchise?

I guess it doesn't matter. When Matthews shows out to be much better than EP you'll have a reason for it that you can't provide now.

so are you admitting that the "bubble" meant nothing and Benning made a huge mistake trading away picks and prospects for Toffoli etc. etc.?
- 1970vintage

Yes & no.

The bubble meant everything. The core & others learned how to win when it mattered most. Thatā€™s invaluable.

Mistakes made afterwards was a setback. Some were going to walk. Toffoli was costly to let go. Blame to be shared on that one.

Hindsight was I wanted the kids to play & gain experience. Problem of a logjam of vets in the way from previous signings. That is on JB for the longer terms & the poor results from them.

Idk what ā€˜aggressiveā€™ means in JBā€™s term but I expect some cap changes a priority. Who or how has to be coming. Who is in the bottom 6 must be addressed.

Wasn't it the sharks that won president trophies, but always flamed out in playoffs?

It is hard to build a team that can compete in the playoffs and still make the playoffs

Ovechkin just popped into my head, should i bother looking him up?

Despite what N4U says i'm not a Leafs fan, i've cheered against them my entire life. My theme song for them was always 5 days in May by blue rodeo but Covid changed that.

Got it! Canuck playoff experience matters, Leaf playoff experience doesnā€™t matter.

Why is it bad to pay for the first drink with a Leafs fan?

They always gone before the second round.

Exactly. You need ask a Leafs fan on their opinion now.

They've won more playoff rounds that the Canucks in 21 less seasons.

What you saw tonight was a team built by a good hockey man in Bergevin vs a team built on a spreadsheet built by an accountant.

Yes, but thatā€™s not important as the Canucks arenā€™t involved.

I think the fact it was the Habs makes it sting 50 times worse for Leaf fans.
