I would love the Flyers to sign Anderson as Hart's backup next season.

TK is not close to be as strong on his skates as Marchand unfortunately. TK will need to bulk up this summer if he ever hopes to come close to Marchand.

And nowhere in what I posted did I compare TK to Marchand other than they were both pests.

It would be nice if TK was though, wouldn't it?

Regarding the defense, I am not sure if I were Fletcher I would go all in on Jones or Hamilton. I think I would rather have 4 really good, tough defenseman at the $4-$6M range versus one defenseman at $9M+. I still believe Tampa is going to be in a bind with Point and Cirelli needing to be exposed in the ED because Tampa has 7 forwards with a NMCs already and must protect them. I also believe Nashville has to make a decision around Ekholm, because they already have Ellis and Josi tied up long term and have to pay Fabbro now. There is also Larsson from Edmonton that I consider to be a good option as a FA. So I would rather fill the needs on the team via trade and smart FA signings versus going all in on 1 specific player.

Part of me wonders if we should be looking for a high priced free agent or trade as compared to the "right fit"

No one would say Niskanen was a "top pair" all situations dman in a vacuum, but he was definitely the "right fit" for what we needed at the time.

I hope Fletch doesn't pull a "Bryzgalov" and throw a poop ton of assets and money at the shiniest toy out there when he could find the best fit. Maybe that is the same player, maybe not.

Who or what that is is why he makes the big bucks.

I’ve said it all year, they were poorly constructed for the playoffs. Their scorers were tearing it up vs an inferior div and I expected them to struggled in the dance. I didn’t see them losing this series especially up 3 1. Remember how hard Montreal played us last year? This doesn’t shock me. I bet the leafs regret sending that 1st for foligno haha. I love laughing at that pathetic organization as I’m surrounded by leafs fans here.

Same with Edmonton, having the 2 top scorers in the league again got them nothing more than a 1 and done also. Every year its the same thing, in order to go deep in the playoffs you must have team toughness and players who go to the dirty areas and get garbage goals. Edmonton and the Leafs are just not built that way, and that is why they continually fail. Matthews and Marner combined for only 1 goal in this series, and that is just unacceptable!

The Marchants and Gallaghers are the pitbulls of the league. At the moment, TK is nothing more than a Jack Russel.

This past season he certainly was. (though Jacks are pretty tough little doggos)

I agree. I honestly believe there are a lot more holes in the Flyers lineup than just the lack of a RHS top Dman. There is also a bad culture with the team that needs to be changed. I would rather see 4-6 new faces on this roster next season that add speed, skill, leadership and most of all toughness versus just adding 1 high priced FA.

I see this team and agree. I think we especially need some more grit. We have some bigger players, but our big players are for the most part soft. We have some skilled players, but they are more 200 foot variety than pure skill. We have some fast players, but for the most part none of them are speed burners.

Yes, thanks. I think we can assume Provorov, Sanheim, York and Zamula will be on the team next year. I would trade Myers; he just is not willing or capable of using his size and playing physical, and that is not something you can teach. I would trade Braun also because we don't need another bottom pairing defenseman that does not play physical either. So the way I see it the Flyers have two top 4 spots on defense to fill. I would sign Larsson and trade for the other defenseman. Then resign Morin as a bottom pairing guy, because I think he does give you that physical game and edge this team needs. With this approach, Fletcher pays about $12M in salary for 3 good, tough defenseman versus playing $9M+ for one, and you free up $4.35M by trading Braun and Myers.

Myers was who I was specifically thinking about when mentioning big and soft.

Exactly! I am not sure you teach someone to be tough, they are either willing to take a hit to make a play or not, and Myers just isn't willing.

I also should have mentioned that I see Ghost be selected in the ED, which frees up another $4.5M in cap space, so this shake-up almost pays for itself. This still does not address the forward group however. I would like to see the Flyers get out from under Jake or JVR, preferably both. The Flyers need to add speed and grit up front also. I think opening up spots for Frost and maybe Foerster would help in this regard, that is if Frost is not traded.

I could live with Ghost being picked, though I would rather it be JVR.

I have read rumblings that some think it could be Braun. While that would free up a spot it doesn't do enough to give is the cap space we need.
